Hello all -

First, I wanted to say thanks for all of the helpful info on this site. After months of searching, I have narrowed down my search to two diamonds. Any help you could give to make a decision would be greatly appreciated. Both are GIA certified...here are the specs:

1) 1.40 ct, round brilliant, E color, VS1, exc/exc/exc, no flourecence, everything else the same.

2) 1.46 ct, round brilliant, E color, VVS2, vg/vg/vg, no flourecence, everything else the same.

So, one is slightly bigger and clearer (#2) but it also is just triple very good as opposed to triple excellent. Prices are similar. Could you tell me a ballpark price for these stones, any criticism or opinions, and whether I should pass on #2 for the better cut #1.

Thanks in advance!

can you post other info on the proportion plot or gia report #, any pics you may have? Need more info than what's listed above.

Have you seen them in person - and did you like one more than the other? If so, just pick the one your eyes found to be superior - they are the best judge.

Thanks for the reply!

Here's the GIA # on the first stone (1.40): 2106950134

I'll get the other one tomorrow.

Thanks - would you mind elaborating? I thought excellent cut did not have much light leakage. I'm confused.

Little differentiates the two diamonds based on the limited descriptions and truthfully, no one but you can tell which one you'd prefer. Be sure the asking price is fair based on a simple search in Pricescope. Once that is done, then taking a look at both diamonds in person will give you all you probably need to know because what your own eyes see will determine the one YOU like best. We think the finest cut diamonds are the ones to choose in most cases, but individual consumers have the choice to choose otherwise and very often do. Some choose impulisvely and without knowledge, but after finding all the information on Pricescope you have access to the many bits of information that make the case for choosing the better cut stone in most instances. Yet the final choice is up to you once you are well informed.

The GIA Excellent cut will give most people a very well cut diamond that they will find no physical or visual problem with. Below that grade of Excellent, there is too much wiggle room and the diamond has a greater chance of not being a fabulous choice. There is a bit more premium to be paid for an AGS000 cut and probably sellers can substantiate why the costs are justified. AGS does have a stricter interpretation of what is a finely cut diamond than GIA, but I can't think of an GIA Excellent stone that I have seen which made me doubt that the grade is worrisome or wrong for consumers.

BTW - thank you to Oldminer for all the knowledge! It's invaluable!

Here are the other 2 stones in the running. Any and ALL opinions are welcomed! Please, I need the help!

GIA # 1115487370 CT. 1.40

could maybe work depending on what goes into those rounded averages, since you have two eyes.. long & thus shallower lower girdle facets would have been reassuring

GIA # 5121219132

Does anyone know how to view/download the real report?

Eric

Thanks for the reply. Please elaborate! Remember, I am a newb. Also - what should I pay for these stones?

Eric

How much are you being quoted for the first? I see 1.4 E VS1s of that size for ~15-17k on the virtual lists

You can check if it is "leaky" under the table by putting it on a brightly coloured paper between your fingers, if you see the colour through the stone like the stone in this thread you'll want to reconsider.

I would not touch that second stone.

Oh, also each is in the 15.5k range. I gotta make a decision by the morning & I am sick over it (literally).
