Hello everyone. A little backround to my searching. I have been with my GF for 7 years. We started dating at the age of 16. We have been through more crap than anyone can imagine, and she has stuck by me through it all. I cant see myself without her in my life. Shes my everything. Ok enough of the sob story.

I went looking in Boston, at the jewlers exchange building. What I am looking for is a Pricess cut diamond, with 4-5 princess cut stones embedded in the band. I went to one place and looked at at 2.04ct stone, and the band was just under 1ct. Total ct weight was about 2.89. The stone was a I color, VS2. I dont rememver the exact specs, the paperwork is at home, but the girdle/table was low 70s, and flourence was NONE. Polis/symm very good They quoted me 10,650 out the door.

I went to another place, E.B. Horn, and the same thing. 2.01ct diamond, H color, but a Si2. They quoted me 12,500 Total ct wight was about 2.84. This stone was flourence NONE, girdle/table in the low 70s, and polish/symm was very good.

My question is this...are H and I stones not going to be that shiny? I want this ring to POP, and sparkle like hell. My friend bought his girl a I color stone, and it looks nice. I probably cant afford a 2.0ct diamond in the D,E,F color class. Is H/I bad??? Should I move up in color, but down in size to offsett the price...Both rings when they put the diamond in the setting looked beautiful. I was floored when looking at them. I want something big, but not godly looking. Any oppinions would be great.

Thanks

Mike,

It's probably not the I color classification but the cut that's lacking.

I am no expert, but I'm pretty sure others will chime in with this.

Why not put in your specs into the Pricescope thingie and find out what a stone of that size with a great cut would be?

Cut thats lacking? Please explain. I'm so new at this you can tell.

Thank so much!

Mikey, if you check out the show me the ring section of this forum, you will see plenty of H through K stones that are plenty sparkly. The common denominator is cut. Cut is the most important C when determining how sparkly a diamond will be. It is harder to pick a princess cut because it is a fancy shape. Fancies are classified differently than round, and picking one by the "numbers" is difficult if not impossible. Most fancies must be seen to determine if they are pretty or not. Also with a fancy, you must watch color carefully as they tend to show color more easily than an ideal cut Round Brilliant. In a RB the increased light return of that particular shape in an ideal cut tends to mask color and inclusions. Bottom line for a fancy, find a vendor that you can trust. There are a number of them here who are great. Whiteflash, NiceIce, SuperbCert, GOG, I believe can all do a good job with princesses. They give you all the info you need to make an informed decision. They are priced reasonably, and they are willing to send to an independant appraiser near you so that you can see the stone before you decide to buy. You pay them, and the appraiser releases the stone to you once he gets confirmation of payment from the vendor. I am not an expert. I am just a very happy consumer who bought online and will never go back to the old way.

Great thanks for the info. I am thinking about stepping down in size, and going up in color. Then again i dont know. I am confused. Saturday was my first time looking, and I already forget what they all looked like. I need to go back and check again.

Can someone do me a favor and tell me what specs i should be looking for in a pricess cut diamond? Figure the ct. for the diamond will be between 1.75-2.0 What should i look for for specs? Whats ideal for this size diamond?

Thanks for the help
