Hey all,

I am completely new to this website, and completely new to the whole ring buying game. BUT...you guys look like a bunch of
nice people and you definitely know what you're talking about.

So...I am looking for a platinum ring with a four pronged centered diamond. My ideal ring is the cartier solitaire 1895....

a few questions:

is it better to buy a loose diamond and then find a setting?

if so, how do i go about finding someone to set it?

where is the best place to get a loose diamond?

I am sort of a brand whore...does anybody know the approximate price for a cartier solitaire 1895 with about a 1 carat diamond?

thank you for your time and I appreciate any replies that come my way!!

It depends on what you mean by /better/. There are certainly replicas of the 1895 solitaire setting that would be less $$ than cartier.

if so, how do i go about finding someone to set it?

I would get it set by the vendor who makes the setting. If this is a different vendor from the diamond vendor there may be a mounting fee.

where is the best place to get a loose diamond?

again, it depends on what you mean by best...what are your priorities/budget?

I would ask Cartier.

If you buy a diamond and setting rather than going into Cartier and buying a finished ring, then you do buy the diamond first and then have the setting made to fit the diamond and her finger.

I love this setting that is similar to the 1895:

http://www.whiteflash.com/engagement-rings/solitaire/caroline-solitaire-engagement-ring-by-vatche-251.htm (plain shank)

http://www.goodoldgold.com/images/settings/Vatche%20Files%20w%203%20view%20large%20file/1502%20CAROLINE%20BRIGHT%20CUT%20PAVE/1502%20caroline%20bright%20cut%20pave%203%20view%20large.jpg

(same setting but with diamonds on shank)

You may well be able to get a more perfect stone from a vendor other than Cartier if that is your desire. But I understand that to some people, the brand is worth the extra money and they may be happy with a very good stone over ideal cut.

thank you so much for the helpful info...

so if i were to purchase a loose diamond, who do you guys recommend? anything/anyone I should steer clear of?

by the way, my budget is 9k

thanks again,
