Now that Christmas is over, it''s time to look forward to New Year''s Eve. How are you planning on celebrating? What was the best New Year''s Eve you had?

As of right now, we don''t have any plans. If we''re by ourselves, we may go to a wine bar near us for dinner, or we''ll get Chinese or Indian take out and watch movies. I''ll be asleep before midnight, most likely. If we decide to see what friends are doing, we may get together and have dinner and hang out until right after midnight. It''s funny, none of my friends are night owls, so I''m sure we''ll all be fighting off sleep until we part ways.

The best NYE my husband and I had was when we went to Quebec City in ''03/''04. We had met and begun dating a few months earlier and this was the first mini vacation we took as a couple. It was a fantastic trip, and we knew we''d return to QC someday (we don''t live TOO far away -- about 6-7 hours). We ended returning for our honeymoon.

We love love Indian takeout!

Plans...I don''t know. A good friend had holiday hip replacement surgery and can''t get around so easily, so we might go there for some cheering up and bubbly. Or more likely stay home and vege.

I can''t wait for 2009! It''s going to be a great year!

(Now you have me thinking I''ve got to get hubby to bring home Indian takeout TONIGHT.)

Hi

Don''t know the plans yet. I do have to go to Orlando that weekend to move my brother into his dorm room but I don''t think I want to be there for New Years. We may just find some friends to hang out with or go to FI''s grandmother''s house.

My most favorite New Year''s was probably 2 years ago. It was just FI, myself, and his parents. We listened to music and got his mother drunk off of really weak pina colada. It was hilarious.

FI is taking me to Kauai as one of my Christmas presents for New Year's. So I'll be in a bikini in Hawaii this New Year's, which I've never done before. One and a half weeks! It may turn out to be our favorite New Year memory. But the ones I remember the most include being at home with our families... I love it when you can look into the faces of all your loved ones on special days. It really doesn't matter where you are so long as your loved ones are there. Last New Year's my family came to New York and that was extra special.

Zoe -- those are the BEST memories. I love ordering takeout and watching movies with FI, too! And isn't it funny how certain cities become special to the two of you? We feel that way about San Francisco!

We''re going to Morton''s Steakhouse for a nice dinner with good friends. Our friends have a tradition of going to Morton''s, and I so prefer that over the big hotel parties we''ve gone to recently.

I''d love to throw a pajama party in our house next year, I just didn''t get my act together soon enough to organize it for this year.

Bliss- I am so jealous, LOL! Have a wonderful trip!

We''re probably staying in this year, LOL. Money is tight so everyone is pretty much laying low....

My favorite memory.... hmmmm.... probably when Y2K hit, it was my senior year of High School, and we had this HUGE party. And of course, at midnight, one of the guys had snuck downstairs and tripped all of the circuit breakers so the power went out, LOL!

geckodani, my favorite New Year memories are staying in! There is NOTHING better than being in your own home... Isn''t that funny? It always sounds better to be other places, but in reality -- home is the sweetest place of all! Whoa, nice rock next to the gecko! I suddenly got distracted.

Haven, you make me want to go eat steak! Morton''s is excellent.

LOL! Looks even better on my hand than with the gecko.

You''re funny.

Now I want steak too.

We''ll be in Manhattan for New Years, we leave tomorrow bright and early. We have an 8:30 dinner reservation at a french restaurant; we''ll either ring in the New Year at a bar or curled up in our hotel room watching the ball drop on television.

We''re heading to a friend''s house for a party. We were hoping to have it at ours but they beat us to it!

We''re going back to my alma mater because the basketball is undefeated and playing on NYE. My hometown and DH''s hometown are nearly equidistant, so I think we plan to go to one or the other (or stay on campus) - wherever we can round up some friends!!

Last year we stayed in town and had a nice dinner alone - but honestly, it was pretty lonely.

The best year we ever had was the year we were at DH''s grandparents'' and I fell asleep around 10pm. The reason it was excellent though is because we woke up at 4:30am to go get on a plane to Mexico!!

Bliss -- Kauai -- seriously?!! You''re so lucky! Hawaii is at the top of my "must see" destinations. I hope you have a fabulous time. Will you post pics of your trip when you return? We''ve never been to San Francisco but we hear it''s supposed to be a great city. We love exploring new places, so hopefully we''ll get there someday.

Haven -- a pajama party sounds like fun! I''ve heard that Morton''s is a fantastic steak house. Have fun!

Fiery -- that''s a funny story! Have fun on NYE this year.

Julia -- I keep craving Indian food. We went out last weekend and although my husband wanted Chinese food, I begged him to take me for Indian. I won -- it was delicious! I hope your friend makes a speedy recovery.

Gecko -- funny story!

Kimi -- have a great trip to NYC!

Bee -- have fun at your friend''s party. Maybe you can beat them to it next year and have them to your house.

Elmorton -- have fun at the basketball game!

KimberlyH, have an awesome time in NYC!!! It sounds like you''re going to have a blast. Bring an umbrella -- they say it''ll rain after Tuesday. Woohoo!!!!!

Ms. Gecko, I will take lots of pics! Niiiiiiice rock. Mmmmmhmmm!

DH has to work. He is switching over to swing shift, so he may be home just in time for a midnight kiss

. I will be home with my two little grand boys, while my daughter and her DH attend a party.

The boys and I will wear party hats, have apple cider, watch a movie and have popcorn.

I''m really hoping to stay in this year with just my husband. Last year a friend of his invited himself and his girlfriend over. No biggie, but they came in tow with 6 other people that were not mentioned to us on the phone and I didn''t know. It turned out to be a good time in the end, but not exactly hoping for a repeat this year.

I did make reservations for Lunch at Old Homestead on 9th Ave for Jan 1st. Am dying to try their Kobe burgers. My husband swears by them.

Kimberly, you''re gonna have a great time here on New Years. Just stay away from Times Square.. heheh.

Last year we had a ton of fun at dh''s best friend''s house...it was dh''s friend and his wife, one other couple we are really close to, and us. They even invited our puppy, and we all spent the night. The host is a chef, so there was TONS of good food that we pigged out on all night.

We were hoping to do something similar this year, although the host now has a 6 month old baby, and since I''m expecting, we probably wouldn''t spend the night, but still hang out and have a low-key fun time, but another one of dh''s friends is having a huge all-out party, so we will probably feel obligated to go to that.

We''re going out to a fancy dinner at a lounge with two other couples - after dinner there will be a DJ and dancing. We''ve never really gone "out" for NYE, so felt we had to do it at least once

I''m on call - no plans for me. My BF is happy, he is going to save lots of money :-).

i usually stay home on New years Eve,too dangerous out there.

We might go play Texas Hold ''em at the golf course bar. Small entry fee, cheap liquor. Or we might just stay home, watch a movie, have some popcorn and probably be in bed before midnight.

I''ll be working....like every year

Maybe I will get out in time for a NYE kiss at midnight from FI since he''s off....

Sounds like many of you have great plans!

We are going to be moving into a new house on New Year''s Day, so we are renting a truck and loading it up on New Year''s Eve. I suspect thai takeout eaten with plastic forks--I literally just packed up the dishes and silverware, so we won''t have a choice :)

We''re spending the new year in a new home and I''m really excited! I am just keeping my fingers crossed for good weather.

DH and I are going to our favorite Seattle restaurant where we often celebrate our wedding anniversary, Valentine''s Day, and also had a small wedding reception. Just the two of us...can''t wait!

Hi Zoe!

We''re headed to QC this year for NYE- any recommendations?

I will be heading to a party at my good friend''s apartment. I''m really looking forward to celebrating with a bunch my favorite people, without any long lines, crowds, or ridiculous cover charges!

Haven, your plans sound great! I was just at Morton''s last week, and it was unbelievable, as always.

Well, I got invited to a dear friends party; she has the best parties, but I got sick on Christmas and now hubby is sick. I am at the tail end of my cold, whatever yucko I had but hubby is just getting it so I don't know if we will go to this party. If not, it is nice just staying in; I have this wonderful wine that it would be nice to stay in and have together. hehe

Oh, the Best NYE. Okay, when I was about 20 or 21 I was at my parents house and it snowed hard and my sister, mom and dad and I watched Little Woman it was so peaceful and happy to be together, I was suppose to go out with a boyfriend but didn't and it ended up being a better time with family. Another good NYE was when we went to Savannah and my SIL took us with her to a friends NYE party and it was super nice and everyone made us feel at home! It was just nice being with family and making new friends!

Hi Mercoledi!

When my husband and I went for NYE five years ago, we stayed right outside the walls at the Loews Le Concorde Hotel:

http://www.loewshotels.com/en/Hotels/Quebec-City-Hotel/Overview.aspx

It''s a nice hotel on the inside, but it''s not very pretty on the outside (concrete, tall, ugly). The hotel has a revolving restaurant, L''Astral, which is really good. When we were there, it began snowing during dinner and it was so romantic, with the city lights sparkling through the windows. I''m assuming you have a hotel booked already, but if you get a chance to check out L''Astral, it''s worth it (even just for the views alone, although the food was very good, from what I remember). It''s right near the Plains of Ambraham and it''s maybe a 5 minute walk to the walled part of the city.

When we went on our honeymoon in July, we stayed in the upper part of the walled city, right across from City Hall. Our hotel was the Clarendon. There''s a great bar area near the reception desk. We hung out there for drinks every night.

Let''s see, what else? I''m not sure if the Frontenac does brunch on Sundays only but it''s definitely worth it if you can go. I''ve heard the hotel rooms are small and overpriced, but the food was superb.

Oooh, if you like crepes, you can''t leave town without stopping by Crepe Breton. We found that there are actually two on the same street -- one of which is always recommended by the folks at Trip Advisor. I think their names vary a little but they both had "Breton" in the name, which confused us. We weren''t sure which one was recommended, so we went to both. So good!

If you go to the lower part, a great place to have dinner is Spag&Tini. http://www.spagettini.ca/

I got a ton of restaurant suggestions from visiting the Trip Advisor forums. Toast is always a popular suggestion but we didn''t go. We didn''t go to many of the more upscale places since we were on a budget, but it was fun to peek at their menus.

There are a ton of great places I could recommend! Let me know if you''d like more suggestions. We took a few days trips outside the city as well when we were there in the summer. When we were there for NYE, it was a short trip, so we just walked around the city a lot and then found places to duck into for some hot chocolate.

Have a blast!!!

NEL -- good luck with the move!

SDL -- you have to work on NYE? Oh no! I''m sure you''ll be helping a ton of people that night.

Everyone''s plans sound like so much fun! We used to do First Night in Boston for years. My friends and I would rent a hotel room in the city and spend the night having dinner somewhere and then walking around. It was so much fun at the time, but now spending time amongst the crowds in the cold is the last thing in the world I''d want to do. I''m getting old. Now, I''d much rather hang out with friends or watch a movie and either go out for dinner or get take out.

I''m itching for something really fun to do! A party, being at a bar- something. The last two I''ve spent at home way out of the city, watching others have fun on tv since husband was sleep by 10PM. It seems the older I get, mentally I want to act like a teen again.

One of the most fun and memorable New Year''s I''ve had was when I was 15 or 16. It was the eighties and teens could get away with so much then. It was a group of seven of us. The oldest in the group (18 at the time) asked his aunt to borrow the car. She said sure as long as you replace the gas. We drove to NYC, all stuffed into a Chevy Citation, celebrated in Time Square then went to the Vault nightclub to dance and have some drinks until they closed, found a breakfast place at about 6AM, then drove back to Boston to crash at my friend''s house. One of many crazy underage adventures I''ve had- we were nuts back then.

I am getting all dressed up with my BFF and going out! I luuuurve NYE, I love any excuse to dress up and drink champagne!
