Judging a princess cut by GIA report is useless. Need to see image and an ASET image. With JA, you will be able to request up to 3 images.

Stone-cold, not trying to hijack this thread, but when I called jamesallen a few days ago, I asked for a idealscope of a diamond I was looking at, and I also asked for a hearts&diamonds. The consumer rep was able to get me a idealscope, but stated that jamesallen will only provide a hearts&diamonds image if it is on of their signature diamonds, is this correct?

yap, only their H&A stone is provided with a hearts image.

Thanks for the help. I emailed them for the image.. we'll see what happens. thanks for the link that helps.. so basically look for mostly red around the center, minimal blue and less green :)

Red distributed, under the table and to the edge of the stone. Green is ok, as long as it is not too excessive. Blue is ok, just not have too big a patch an side by side with a patch of leakage.

Attached is the photo.

Here is their gem inspection..

This diamond is absolutely eye clean with no visible inclusions. It is a mid I in color grade which is great because it does not face yellow at all. It is slightly grey under the table (as indicated by the attached ASET image); but according to our gemologist it still has nice light performance overall (as indicated by the widespread red coloration throughout the ASET).

What do you guys think? Alot of white in there, seems that is not so good as I know that is leakage of light...

That looks good to me.

I don't like the Aset or the description... but then, I know very little about princess cuts.

What don't you like about them? I dont know much about any of these.. looks decent from the descriptions ive read, however that is a lot of white that supposibly isnt good. Maybe will still sparkle on the top just not from the sides as much?

I don't like it because it seems like a lot of white around the edges - so no light return at 8 different fairly big patches (relatively, of course) along the edges, as well as around the culet (center). White means those patches don't reflect light. It's like a window - you can see your finger or the metal of your ring underneath these spots.

What you want are a bunch of little mirrors reflecting light. Those white spots aren't mirrors, and since they're so close to the edge, it's going to make your diamond look smaller too.

The red patch in the center is bright and quite nice though.

Take a look at Stone Cold's link again: http://www.ideal-scope.com/1.using_reference_chart_ASET.asp None of those diamonds, even the "fair" one has as much white as this Aset (although again, there is a nice big patch of red in the center).

I see what you mean. That was my worry but this is the first stone i've narrowed down. Ill let it off hold and keep looking.

Thanks
