Hello,

I'm looking to purchase a diamond engagement ring soon. I've done some research but am still perturbed on why some diamonds with the same specs differ in cost. I used the pricescope search engine to find these diamonds. Can anyone provide any input on what factors of the diamonds cause them to be priced differently? Thanks for your time and help.

Welcome!

Can you add the crown and pavilion angles please for each diamond so we have a more complete picture and the cut grade please?

Do you know the cut grade? That can make a big difference.

The crown and pavilion angles weren''t listed for either diamond. Could that be the reason why the price is different? Can someone point in me in the direction to find out what the angles should be? Thanks so much for the fast responses.

May be part of it. Wackadoo if you ask me. Both are GIA, and are listed here, offered through multiple vendors...ranging really from $8731 - $16,308. The first one shows a depth that AGA 1B vs 1A, and...though I''m betting not a train wreck...maybe this will be important.

Ask the vendor you favor to research it for you.

Note...listed diamonds all 1A range from $12,014 (yes, a higher base) to $17,161, with each otherwise having the exact same features (i.e., 1.12 carats, E, and VVS2).

If someone who is really able to remove the arbitrary nature of the difference can pipe in, I''d be grateful, too.

Thanks for the link

One problem I have found with trying to figure out pricing based on a database driven list is that sometimes the list is out of date.
I''d say that the price of $8804 indicated that either the diamond is not available, or there''s mistake in the listing.....

Yeah, well, I don''t know, but if I were the buyer, I sure as heck would hope you''re both wrong. Several sellers do list the same diamond. I hope DN will contact one and let us know the status...maybe ask the seller to give us some professional insight as to the discount. These guys are the ones with the vested interest (that is, listing seller, and buyer).
