Hello. I am a new diamond buyer and am planning on purchasing my girlfriend''s first pair of diamond studs (princess cut) for her birthday this month, and my budget is around $400 (cheap, I know). It looks like I''m going to reach a maxium tcw of .33 (my favorite are from Mondera) with my budget, though I have found a few studs on Ebay at .40. My question is how much of a difference is there between .33 and .40? I really cannot tell myself. I''m also hesitant to buy from Ebay, as I know Mondera is a reputable diamond dealer.

Thanks much.

if the stones are both well cut than some but not huge difference..........if the ebay stones have better numbers they could appear bigger. comparing two carat weights without the additional information is impossible

Let me be more specific.

From Mondera:

.33 CTW, Clarity SI, Color H-I, Platinum, $350

From MLG:

.40 CTW, Clarity SI, Color G-H, White Gold, $310

From Alan G:

.40 CTW, Clarity VS, Color I-J, White Gold, $325

Thoughts?

So you''re a new stud, eh? Well c''mon let''s see a picture!! I hunted for many years before I found mine. He''s not perfect but he''ll do in a pinch. I''m keeping him!!

Sorry, I just couldn''t resist!!!!!

It''s really hard to know which pair to choose without more information about the cut of the stones. Personally, I think Mondera may have more to choose from and you may have less hassle if you need to return them. IMO, I to J colored stones will be a good economical choice for diamond stud earrings, you may be able to get a larger pair for less going lower in color and clarity. I would consider white gold as well to save money and have more to put towards larger diamonds. Just my opinion.

You need to find out the dimensions of the stones and post these numbers here. Without the depths and tables (at the very least) of both stones there''s absolutely no way any of us can provide an informed opinion.
