just a short story about this yellow beryl stone-when i bought it to my jeweler for mounting-im standing at the counter trying to tell him about the new material just discovered-urinite-from brazil-i told him, with a serious look-that these new stones were rare with a good yellow color-the only problem was they had a strange smell & usually were seen to melt under too much heat but if he could mount the stone in 14kt yel gold & keep it cold-it would probably last about 2 weeks-iv never seen a more puzzeling look on a goldsmiths face ever-john knows im serious about my stones & he pretty much took it in-needless to say we did smile about this-sometimes we do cutup-all in fun-steve...

Haha, you must have been able to keep a very straight face if the jeweler was buying into your story.

kismet-my jeweler knows me pretty well now & is not sure what to expect when i walk into the shop-several months ago i gave him a kiss on the cheek-he had just finished a pendent for me & really did a nice job-another blindside hit-all in fun with him being a serious guy-helps the day go-the wife just takes it in stride-steve...

*slaps forehead* - urinite????? Please noooooooo!!!!! :errrr:

Steve, I see that your jeweler (and your wife) is a good sport!
That 's an interesting Urinite!

And since I never miss the chance to educate my fellow PS-ers, urinites can look very attractive and "sleepy" due to presence of: calcium oxalate, calcium phosphate, struvite, uric acid or cystine. Some of these substances also form attractive crystals. The sight and composition of these stones may differ dramatically depending on the flight.

It saddens me to think that with modern tendencies, vendors may start heating them in their stoves or worse, "nuking" them. As a collector, I am interested in new stones, but I shall never buy a nuked fecalite, unless there is full disclosure!

You are all too cute and funny today :)

What a way to bring in the Holiday Season :)

It was like when I was the young naive rock hound some 20 plus years ago; I asked one of the old timers what a particular rock was and they told me leaverite; I thought it was special and started collecting them. I had a entire bucket full; then one of the kinder rock hounds told me leaverite was not a collector gem; but to" leave her right" where you found it; it was just a rock... I just wish they had told me before I carried that 50 pound bucket around for an hour
Duh :)

oh the memories :)

But that was very funny; LOL I am still grinning :)

Have a Very Happy Holiday to All :)

Most respectfully;

Dana

Urine Luck!

Hahaha.

to all of u who answered & grinned-thanks for reading & the time to reply-im standing up and waving at the screen-merry xmas & hollidays 2 all-steve...

Ah yes, it's a must for everybody's collection. I find Urinite sits quite nicely in a gem box alongside Pooite and Fartite. Those are particularly interesting gemstones but they all have the same smelly characteristics and colourway!

LD,
What color is "Fartitie?"

Depends on the mine TL. Can be colourless, transluscent or murky and muddy! I don't think you'd like it because it does tend to have brown tones. :wink2:

(Apologies to those of weak constitution!)

For untreated, unheated fartite... what do you think should be price per carat? Do you know the location of the mine? And most important, since it is a new stone... Do you think I should get an AGL cert on it?

BTW - dead serious - there is "coprolith". I guess you will guess what it is.

Color me relieved. Oh, that is a pun.

Anyway, I thought you were misspelling Uranite which is really Uraninite which is Pitchblende. No need to tell you to stay way from that as it really is Heliodor. So the only glow is your smile.

   Funniest. CS. Thread. Ever.

I feel this entire thread is very Charmin . . .

Everybody is hilarious, but LD   I love the mining info you've passed along to us. It's quite a load of information . . . :D

Lol! You're funny!
