New shank on wedding ring?

This is a follow-up to my previous post. Last week I posted about having a line in my ring after it was resized. Well I took it back to the jeweler and they said that could fix it but they'd have to put a whole new shank on the ring. My ring is 18 karat white gold and it has a channel set band. Do you think I should have them do that? I'm nervous that it will weaken the setting somehow. Is it better to just live with a line in the band from where they put it back together after sizing it? Thanks for your help!

Is the ring channel set all the way around or just halfway? If halfway, do they mean they would replace the bottom, plain part?

It's only channel set half way around and yes, they'd replace the bottom half of the ring.

I would just worry since they left a line when sizing it whether they could replace half the shank without having two lines! Can you take a picture of the line and post it?

I have a picture on my phone but I'm not sure how to post it. Help please??!!

A line on the bottom of a ring is not a visual problem, but something you can choose to worry over or equally as well forget about. If they had a problem doing a sizing job by leaving a line, they may not do better putting on a 1/2 shank which might leave two far more visible lines. I'd respectfully suggest you sit tight and not potentially involve yourself in a more dangerous scenario.

In putting on a 1/2 shank the diamonds on the ends of the channel may get burned and then need to be replaced. Putting on a 1/2 shank will require further polishing at the soldered seams and may thin the channel setting walls. Doing further repairs or alterations when none are totally required is not necessarily better than waiting to wear things out a bit more by daily use.
