Dear fellow pricescopers,

I'm new here and am so glad I stumbled upon this forum. I've spent the last few days getting my diamond knowledge up and can't believe the amount of info provided here. I'm beginning to think whether this is good or bad, as I know I'll be more critical at this point forward. As they say, ignorance is bliss....or is it? Atleast I know I'll be getting a fair deal instead of ripped off at a mall jeweler. Ok, so now for the good stuff.

I have a preference towards fire over brightness and prefer a higher color over clarity so long as it's eye clean. Opinions on the above 3 or any other suggestions are welcome and very much appreciated. If you have any experience or rate one vendor over another, please chime in. Thanks all!

Pictured in this post is the James Allen Idealscope, I will need to make seperate posts for the others.

They all look great! I would check if the WF diamond is eyeclean to your standards by asking them. Also if an upgrade might ever be a consideration, all 3 vendors offer an upgrade programme but the terms of each differ so you might want to read up and factor that into your decision.

These will all perform (nicely) about the same, with equal amonts of brilliance and fire. Nice choices! Ditto Lorelei on the WF stone, and upgrades.

Ok, I''m going to get in touch with WF to get some more information. This is going to be my first jewelry purchase, so I am as rookie as it can get. I came across Leon''s site last night and was blown away by some of his settiings and I know these cost more than run of the mill. My overall budget for everything is around 16-17K. With that said, would most most girls here prefer:

Ring 1: 1.50 Carat G-SI1 AGS Ideal with a more basic setting

or

Ring 2: 1.20 Carat E-VS2 GIA Ex/Ex/Ex with a beautiful paved setting from Leon Mege

Keep in mind that my soon to be fiance is quite petite with a finger size of 4.5

Well that depends, personally if the cut is excellent and equal on both then I would prefer the larger diamond ( assuming SI clarity is eyeclean) as I am more about the diamond than the setting, but it depends on what you think your GF would prefer.

HI:

Lots-O ladies will suggest their sweet spot is G-SI1--and a 1.5 carat is a fabu size. AGS 0 desirable pedigree.
I would not opt for a pave ER setting--but that is just me. But I''d take a Leon Mage plain Jane anyday! (and an E color for that matter....LOL)

cheers--Sharon

Yes, I''ve seen a 1.50 in store and really like that size, but I''m afraid it might look too big on her (even though I know it''s never big enough

. I know she would also prefer a band that is more unique and wouldn''t mind the stones (although I myself like the plainer/classic designs, but this isn''t about me

This is the setting that I really like from Leon: http://www.artofplatinum.com/4images/details.php?image_id=308 which shows a 1.10 carat and looks great to me. Ideally the 1.50 with that setting would be perfect, but afraid it''s out of my price range. So many choices, so hard to find the perfect one....

I would probably buy the larger stone if it''s eye clean and put it in a temporary very cheap setting to present it to her. Then the two of you together can pick a setting for it. Because it sounds like she has very specific tastes.

I vote larger stone! She can always choose a more ornate setting later. If you get the smaller stone and she wants to upgrade later, then it may be hard to fit the larger stone in the custom setting an dyou may have to buy a new setting anyways.

BTW, I am a very petite woman with a 3.75 finger size. My e-ring is 2.1 carats and I don''t think it''s too big at all!

Thanks for the feedback everyone, it''s so nice to hear different points of views. I''ve only searched these 3 sites using these specifications, so I expand my search to other vendors and broaden my diamond grades?
