it looks like a nice stone indeed. I Buy diamonds differently I will only purchase stones that are from the secondary market i.e. craigslist from individuals on ebay, but I never buy from stores , pawn shops or online retailers. The way I approach it will only allow me to purchase things which are profitable. Even if i could afford to spend example 10k on a ring, i would find a way to "cheap out" in a good way and find a used ring with similar qualities for less . My mind works a bit differently , If i could have gotten a similar ring or stone cheaper from some guy on craigslist, The one i "overpaid" for haunts me .

I just would not be able to sleep at night knowing i could have gotten a better deal on a different stone. I could rest knowing the cut is poor , as long as i got it cheap like so i could resell it later for profit when I got bored of it. I know other peoples minds work differently , they cannot sleep if the cut is off, or the color is off. etc

If i overpay in my mind is when i feel like my stone is not "mind clean" which may sound odd.
My idea of a good diamond is that you pay less than its secondary market resale is.

Sometimes I wish I was more like you guys, you see a stone you love, and you go for it!! I have to operate on a system that sometimes
does not allow me to choose the stones i wish. I have discussed this with my gf, she is fine with that , she knows that if i spend 300 dollars on a ring that costs 1299 . she knows that I spend many hours searching for the best deals so she can have as many pieces as she can. The downside is I dont get to use my creativity for choosing settings, or choosing the stone that I truly want.

Theres a funny quote, not 100% accurate : People are willing to pay for something, when they want it "diamonds" more than they want the money that the "diamonds" costs. This goes for anything in life

keep in mind , i have been burned many times , but its paying for my education , and i try to never make the same mistake twice

:P

I have no idea what guilhermeesq was talking about. I recall you asking a question about a diamond and not about how he makes a decision when it cones to buying a diamond.

Regardless, I would have requested an idealscope images of the diamond to see if there is light leakage. Otherwise, everything looks good.

Welcome, erocker. It looks like you've done your preliminary research and have chosen a nice diamond. Yes, it would be nice to have an Idealscope image and an ASET image for this diamond, but I don't believe Blue Nile offers that service. Look under the "Tools" section of the blue toolbar on this page for more information on what an Idealscope image is. You can buy your own IS scope and use it on the Blue Nile Stone when you received.

However, seeing the diamond in person and assessing it with your own eyes will always trump the IS images. Why? Because you will be able to observe the diamond in a variety of lighting conditions, at all angles, and compare it to other diamonds. In addition, GIA rounds its numbers and so the numbers you see on the report are averages, not exact numbers, of the diamond's dimensions. It's not just the numbers themselves that matter, but how the numbers relate to each other and how well the numbers work together. The grading report cannot "see" the diamond in real life. So sometimes diamonds with great numbers will not look great in person, and sometimes grading reports with so-so numbers look great in person.

What should you look for when you get the diamond? Uniform sparkle and brilliance, with no dull or dark areas. It is normal for a diamond to have light and dark areas, but these should be constantly moving and changing as you move the diamond around. Dull, dark areas in the center of the diamond or along the edges of the diamond, especially if these areas remain consistently dark across all lighting conditions, can be a sign of a diamond that is cut too shallow or too deep. Here are some links to Good Old Gold's education section that may help you understand what to look for when you receive your stone. Blue Nile has an excellent return policy, I believe, and you can always returnt this diamond if it does not meet your expectations. But I hope this diamond is a winner!

Thank you for your thoughts... The diamond sparkles very well with no dark spots that I can tell. I took it to a local dealer and they said it was gorgeous (while looking at settings).
