Need Engagement ring and I think I want either:

#1 .8 ct. F VS2

or

#2 .8 ct. G SI1

I''ve found some GIA certs that look good on paper with Depth < 61%, Table < 58%, Med girdle, no cutlet, no FL, and polish and symmetry excellent. Is it still possible for these stones could have undesirable pavillion and crown angles making them a bad buy? What P and C angles do I want? Assuming the same cut can the naked eye tell the difference between #1 and #2? Any help or advice will be appreciated. Thanks

What shape stone are you considering?

Round (Forgot to mention)

You'll probably get LOTS of great advice from people who know a whole lot more than I do... but here's my (humble!) 2 cents...

Assuming both are great cuts (of course!)... if the SI1 was totally eye-clean, I'd go with that and never look back! Truthfully, I can't see the difference between an F and a G (and most people can't, either!) but 100 MORE POINTS of stone?!!! Now that I would see, and so would everyone else!!! YOWSA!

Yep - it's a no brainer to me. #2 (if it's eyeclean)

Lynn, the stones are both .8 stones. The way he listed it, it was Stone #1 and Stone #2.....but both are .8 in weight.

I know there's a price break at G, but not enough to fund an additional carat!

Phish: P/C angles can vary, but a very tight range with a high probability of a blazing stone are crown 34.3 to 34.7; pavilion 40.6 to 40.9.

To your other question, no.........assuming cut is equal, all but the most trained or color sensitive people cannot tell the difference with the naked eye between an F, VS2 and a G, SI1 *as long as* the SI1 is eyeclean.

OHMYGOSH! How embarrassing!!!! How stupid am I, anyway?!!

Have you looked at the "cut adviser" link on PS? If not, you should. It will tell you how your stones rate and whether the angles are off

As for the color and clarity, as long as the SI1 is 100% eye clean their won't be a visible difference between the stones EXCEPT where cut is concerned.

Oh, and Lynn B, I had to look twice before realizing they were #1 and #2 rather than 1.8 and 2.8 so don't feel bad!

Actually.....not very. I, too, misread it initially, and then had to look closer. Happens to the best of us!
