Hi, I have been lurking for awhile and now have a reason to post. Just bought this stone today:
2.83 Cushion Cut
E/VS1 VG/G (GIA)
Depth 63.3 Table 56
No culet
Faint
$34,407
What are your thoughts and opinions?? I''d really appreciate any thoughts! A picture is attached - it looked a little yellow in the picture so I adjusted the settings. The stone is an E and crystal clear. My wife is thrilled! I am getting a verification in a couple of days and then we will be shopping for a setting.
Thanks!
G

Oooh, what a gorgeous stone. I love big fat cushions! Please let us know what setting you decide on. It will be a beauty no matter what but you should definitely check out some of Leon Mege''s creations. Congratulations!!!

Wow, love it.

I would love to see the facet diagram that is on the chart.

Is this a "new modern cushion" cut ?

Beautiful! Just beautiful!!!!!!!!!!! ..and in any of those settings? To die for!!!

I will see what I can do about posting the facet pattern. It is a modern cushion with no culet. The certificate says "Cushion Brilliant."
Thanks!

Thanks a lot! When my wife and I were married I didn''t have squat. She''s waited a long time for a beautiful wedding ring, and now three kids later, it was time I really stepped up.

Some cushions seem to have more depth. These numbers are more in line with a round stone. In effect, we get the dimmensions of a 3 carat however. I hear many cutters "pad" the stone to get to that three carat threshold. You see very few cushions in the 2.5-3 carate range, plenty at 3.0X.

What type of setting are you going to put that huge sucker into?
moremoremore pictures please! and the facet pattern and the setting choices and the hand shots and one for me (thought I'd try to sneak that one in there)

Ann- are you STILL looking? Geez. That's taking a long time but thew quality and size you're looking for don't grow on trees. You'll find one soon for sure!

it''s so fabulously enormous! i want it!

MMM - yes we are still looking, or rather Mark is. Nothing out there right, so we are waiting for the right one!

Who did you purchase from G-man? Local or PScope?

Ann- he WILL find it for you... as soon as it exists LOL. It doesn''t help that BlueNile used to have SO many of them. No, almost none of them are "modern" ... GOG has some...

But have you thought about getting an ''almost'' mod stone?

I bought it from DirtCheap. I work in NYC was was able to view the stone first at the supplier as I am only 4 blocks away. Jim and crew were great to work with. I have also bought earrings at BlueNile and had a good experience there too. I have also bought and returned a diamond there as well and they were great about it. I had shopped the loca jewelers as well as the mall stores and the money savings are so significant I was convinced online is the way to go. I am convinced I saved thousands.

Beautiful. I appreciate "humble" beginnings. That is a very nice upgrade. Any wife would be more than happy to receive that stone!!!!

Well done

My wife has many setting choices - either shield or trilliant sidestones, but not too big as to blend in with the center stone too much. She also likes some of the pave and channel bands - the split pave in particular.

I am so so pleased to hear positive reinforcement of our purchase. I am getting a verification done though just in case. I am no gem expert by any stretch, but I think I do recognize a beautiful stone when I see it. And making my wife happy is important. Like I said, she has waited a long long time so I stepped up to make up for past longing.

Frankly, the search has been a lot of fun and I have learned alot, and I am kind of sad it is over.

I am four blocks in NYC from so much of the inventory in the U.S. Part of me wants to be a "photographer" or "third party opinion provider" for others looking to buy online but are scared to buy something sight unseen. It''s a lot of fun and very interesting. I am a banker but have a science bent to my personality, and the science of light return and cut and symmetry is very appealing to me.

I love teensy little trillions or shields...I love that...like in that Leon ring. It''s just a little something ... I think Paris Hilton has teensy little sides ... then again, anything next to that thing look teensy LOL

To those who are interested, I just got my verification done today by an independent appraiser I found on PS. He described the stone as outstanding when he first started looking at it. He said it was just the right combination of everything which leads to essentially the "whole symphony". Naturally we were very pleased. Everything on the certificate checked out as well. He also thought we got a great deal when I told him how much we paid for it at the end.

I''ll post pics in a couple of weeks when we get it set so we can show it off :) I must say I am quite proud of myself for pulling off such a good one from an internet purchase - which is a little scary, especially with a fancy cut. I think it pays to be patient, decide what you want in advance - and do your homework.

And thanks to all on this site for your commitment to educating each other and providing thoughts and opinions. I lurked for quite a while and had a lot more confidence in buying thanks to you all.

Good for you g-man.
Sounds like you''ve got yourself a winning stone.

I can''t wait to see it set.

may we ask who your appraiser was? It is always helpful to get good recs on those services. Your diamond is beautiful and I too purchased a large stone from DCD....I was extremely pleased.

Greg Sherman - he has three office in NJ. I found him on this forum. It was great because we could see him on a Saturday.
