To keep in tact or take apart? That is the question, I’m having. I’m not a cocktail ring person and last year I sold most of my cocktail rings. HOWEVER I stumbled upon this one and fell in love with the design, the pearl not so much.
The rubies have a beautiful glow and the diamonds are super white, however the 15 grams of 14k gold is tempting to remake something out of it.
My middle son (the only one that enjoys my hobby) lol, says it looks like something that came out of a treasure chest. I agree.. it’s beautiful and I may look for an amethyst to replace the pearl.
I would love to hear others thoughts and ideas. Keep or take apart?IMG_6873.jpeg

I’d keep it as is and replace the pearl!

The workmanship looks good on the piece as well :)

Would you look for a cabochon to go with it? And may I also through pink tourmaline or rubellite into the mix, I think they could be an interesting centre stone too :)

I love this idea, tourmalines would look amazing in this! Thank you, it is well made and beautiful. Just large and in charge something I’ve always steered away from. Thank you for your input I will definitely look into tourmaline/rubellite.

What did you pay for it?

I would also replace the pearl.

I am chucking a little that you will happily wear this giant ring but won’t wear a 1ct diamond ;)2

To be honest I bought to take apart, I wanted to use the smaller emerald cuts for something else, but I appreciate the workmanship and it would be a shame to take apart because the design is different and well thought out. I’ve gotten rid of all of cocktail rings for that same reason (I don’t normally do flashy and big) but I have caught myself in the past having moments where having something big and flashy would have made the outfit “better” per se. I regretted getting rid of my angel skin coral ring. But it didn’t fit so it did feel slightly less guilty for selling it. So before scrapping this or take it apart I thought I would get some ideas before making a rash decision.

I guess I'm in the minority that likes the pearl! If it is in good shape with as nice a luster as it appears to have, I would leave it. But you must do what makes your heart happy! Very pretty... enjoy!!

I’m a klutz, pearls don’t stand a chance with me (maybe I’m exaggerating) but I am guilty of very sparingly, but occasionally banging my ring on a door frame. Thank goodness none have been damaged, but I can already imagine seeing that pearl fly out. The only thing holding that pearl is a substantial amount of glue and hope. Lol I guess I will see what comes across my way and do from there!
I appreciate your input, thank you if it didn’t have such a neat pattern I wouldn’t have hesitated to scrap and make something out of the stones. lol

I’d wear it as is and if the pearl is damaged just replace it.

I like the pearl too, and I'm not even a pearl person! But, you do whatever will make you happy!

Thank you! If it wasn’t so high up with the already high setting.. perhaps it wouldn’t bother me as much we will see I suppose.

I love the pearl! I love the entire ring! I would keep it and wear as is but then again I’m ridiculously frufru!

I love that! See, I’m shy and lack the confidence needed to wear big jewelry.
But my middle son, he is 14, and has the confidence to speak his mind, and just be him with no issues to..anyone lol.
He isn’t going to school and is home bound ATM because of his health. He is my jewelry confidant lol he inspects everything and will tell me if it’s ugly. He fell in love at first sight, the weight, the boldness.
He said these wise words that have persuaded me to keep it intact.
“You need a big ring that sometimes demands attention, a true collector is going to have one ring that makes them feel like a royalty.”
He might be right. Lol

I may still yank out the pearl, maybe a turquoise or a nice cab that will complement the rubies and diamonds.

Keep as it is if it was mine.

DK

@dk168
Thank you, I have every intention of doing that!
ETA: maybe without the pearl. Haha. I should have read more carefully, my apologies.

Your son knows his stuff!

He is wiser beyond his years, he gives me strength beyond his knowledge. I joke and tell him he’s an old soul trapped in a boys body.
He likes collecting Funko pops but also has his and agate collection lol. He will be getting his first piece of jewelry soon DK and his team are working on his custom Star Wars pendant using the pretty little green color treated diamond.

I also love the look of the pearl in this ring...until I see the height, and like you, I'd be concerned that one accidental whack would leave that pearl somewhere in the outer universe. What size is the pearl? Would you be comfortable with a competent bench removing the pearl, and cutting it in half (or so), so that the pearl has a lower profile?

You had me at the, “into the outer universe” :lol-2:,
TBH, I’m impatient..with a little hot water that pearl came right out with no harm done to either, pearl is around 10mm. There wasn’t much glue holding it on.
I have a feeling the pearl wasn’t original to the setting and it once held something that was bezeled in. I could be wrong but it has the form of a bezel setting, using the calipers something 8-8.5mm would fit nicely.IMG_6890.jpeg

Usually a pearl would be set on a post so I think you could be right that it wasn’t original.

A moonstone can would look beautiful!

That’s what I thought was done originally, I have I owned 2 pearls and both had a post where the pearl would be set with a bit of glue, not enough glue to make a basket of glue holding it on to the setting though. Lol

I do have a moonstone, it’s slightly too big at 10mm. But I’m sure it wouldn’t be a huge issue to have it recut to fit. I might see what our local lapidary artist have near by (they cab more inexpensive material)

I have always yearned for a turquoise ruby ring, even more so if it has diamonds.
I stumbled upon one long ago on Lang’s.
Im a sucker for cabochon gems and this pulled my hearts strings with first glance.
While it won’t compare to the original design of the inspo pic, I will settle for something of the sort.
Of course if something else grabs my attention to set in this I will consider it, I foresee it being something bright and cheery.

These are the inspiration pictures for the time being.IMG_6899.jpegIMG_6898.jpeg

Turquoise could look amazing in it!

Thank you, I’m glad I’m not the only one that thinks so. I’ve always loved the contrast of the colors.

Very cool. Just came here to opine that the ratio of workmanship dollars to intrinsic value (apart from the gold) is very, very high so I would leave it intact and try a few possibilities.

I like the idea of a rubellite cab or even a tanzanite cab for an infrequent-wear piece like this.

I also thought about that, a purple kunzite cab did come across my mind as well. Idk too many ideas floating around. I may have to take my time with this project . :twisted2: Patience is not my virtue.

Wow, that is gorgeous!

Setting suggestions:
-Have you thought about making it convertible?

Ring/pendant

Ring/bracelet/pendant

-You could just let it be… I’m like you and don’t wear large stones but I have one 4.5 ct lab diamond with a halo for occasional fun. It actually pairs well with casual clothes like a maxi dress. I don’t wear it that often but it didn’t knock out my bling budget for life :)

Middle stone suggestions:
-Diamond OEC low enough in color that it looks purposeful compared to the emerald cuts.
-Rose cut in any material.

This. A cab colored stone would be amazing.

if I ever make a convertible ring/pendant it’s going to be a big sapphire of some kind at-least 5+ carats.

I love those ideas, I hadn’t thought of a rose cut that would look stunning, oh man.. this is gonna be difficult choosing lol

Hmmmm, as others have mentioned, a pearl should be set in a post with a bit of glue to keep it in place, like this ring setting:

Unless the pearl was a mabe?

DK :))

Perhaps, anything is possible at this point..
I can only imagine what this once held.
For a different perspective here is a 2.75 carat OEC moissy I purchased 4 years ago.. lol just for giggles.
