While I''ve been doing my homework and certainly know to negotiate at any of the jewlery stores I''ve been exploring, I''m not quite sure what to expect at Tiffany''s. Is there room to negotiate with Tiffany''s or is their policy not to negotiate at all?

I''ve seen some other posting''s on this site suggesting that Tiffany''s is about a 20% markup over other sources. Does that sound about right?

Finally, I''ve narrowed it down to two rings. One is F VVS1 and the other is a slighly larger stone that is D VS1. I''m thinking the slightly larger stone is a better choice in that it is D in color and that I probably won''t really notice the difference between the VVS1 and VS1.

Appreciate any feedback.

Thanks!

You will NOT notice the difference between the VVS1 and the VS1. Unless there are obvious inclusions, you can only see the difference on clarity under a 10x microscope.

Provided they have the same cut (ideal, excellent etc...), get the D. You will notice the difference between the D and the F. However, if the cut on the F is better than the D, I would get the F. It''s the cut that makes it sparkle.

i would contend that once set you would not notice the difference between a D and a G/H when set... and extremely difficult to see the difference between a D and F even upsidedown.

Best thing - put the 2 together and see which you prefer - and without knowing which is which. which is the one you are drawn too.

And as for negotiation at Tiffany''s...it''s like buying a Saturn (car)...sticker price only. No hagglers.

I was in there recently looking at diamond stud earings. The markup on the ones I was looking at was about 3 times what you find on the internet.

Tiffany doesn''t negotiate. I suppose you could if you were buying a big ticket, backroom sort of item, but for regular consumers I wouldn''t even think about it.

As I recall, their markup is around 30-40% for similar quality e-rings.

I believe A reagular shmo off the street they wont. I also believe somebody thats famous they would.
