For the Vatche Caroline with princess cut, would you change prongs to V tip or leave rounded? If you have it with rounded is it more claw or more round? What would you do?

Anyone? Princess prongs from Vatche? Claw like? Straight on / top views anyone?

We always recommend to our clients that they go with the V-cap prongs for their princess cuts. They simply protect the corners better, especially should the prong take a blow.

What Wink said...I was going to say the same.:mrgreen2:

LOL! Not often I beat Rocky to the punch. You must have been typing at the same time I was Rocky.

Ok thank you both!!!!!. I THINK I prefer the look of v prong. It’s just that I’ve never seen a princess with round prongs (that I really liked) IRL and I (stupidly) asked my husband his preference go with what I’ve always had or change it.. and he liked the round. Not that he’ll care either way but now I’m confused. Lol. The standard is round so v-tip is a little more expensive (not much) and a little more time to get it done.

i feel like most people go with round but maybe because it’s standard... but why is it standard if v tip is safer? Ahhhhh.. rhetorical question

I like the claw look but it seems most vatche are more rounded, occasionally I’ll see a claw type one for princess cut - maybe it was semi custom.

I have done enough insurance replacements for square stones set in round pegs that I really do not like doing it. There are "techniques" that work most of the time, but the round prongs do not soften blows enough in my opinion.

Double claw prongs are better than a single round in my opinion, but still not as protective as the v-cap.

Wink, who seems to be very opinionated this afternoon...

Thanks @Wink

I’m going to stick with v tip.

V-prongs, like much prong work, are lovely when done well. They are overwhelming and bulky when not done well. Below is an example of prongs done well. They are in proportion to the size of the stone and they are finished to be delicate and symmetrical. The smaller the stone, the more skill to finish them well.

@Wink Glad to hear your thoughts, always. =)2
