3.5 CT round stone in these ideal scopes. Looking for comments on quality of cut and light return. Thanks!

I think the stone could be better / you could find better, but at the same time I dont know what your quoted for it. It looks like light leakage in the center of the table, the hearts could be cut much better than what they are ( notice how they are connected). Also the clarity of the stone seems to be on the lower side. If you even cut down on size you can get much nicer of a stone than what you posted up. Dont mean to sound negative just trying to help, Whats your budget and what characteristics are you looking for? I'll see what i can find and Im sure other members will have loads of suggestions.

Disagree--the IdealScope, while a little difficult to evaluate b/c of the lighting environment and camerawork, is actually very good. That's not leakage in the classic leakage sense.

It's not a superideal hearts and arrows diamond, but it doesn't need to be. It looks great. At 3.5 cts, the virtual facets will still be huge and plentiful with this level of optical symmetry. It's fine. Is the price good? Have you actually seen the diamond?

My biggest concern is if it's eye clean. The inclusions shown will be pretty big on a 3.5 ct diamond.

Seller says eye clean - Haven't seen it in person however. Cert attached. What would be a really good price for the stone?

Really good price is probably around $30,000 and under. Likely price for an eye clean well cut 3.5 ct I SI2 is probably 40K. It's very difficult to know as many more variables go into huge price increases at this weight.

Have you seen this diamond? Because I would be very surprised if it is eyeclean. It also has additional twining wisps, clouds, graining not even shown on the clarity plot. I'd certainly be afraid the light performance might be hindered by the poor clarity. Even SI1 in a stone that size is going to be risky. I'd be looking at VS2 or higher. The idealscope looks fine as related to cut, but the best cut in the world doesn't matter if the stone is full of inclusions that make it cloudy.

Hi Nauticalx,

This diamond definitely has potential, it's a very big stone and it appears to be very well cut, from the images we can tell that it isn't cut to the strictest standards shown by ' true' hearts and arrows diamonds, but it is a very well cut diamond nevertheless and is well worth further evaluation. My thoughts run along similar lines to DS, in a stone of this size of SI2 clarity, you would need to be sure that it is eye clean to your personal standards by making your tolerances in this respect clear to the vendor. For example, if you don't want to see any visible inclusions from any angle or distance, let the vendor know that, the industry definition of eye clean usually applies to face up only from a distance of 12- 18 inches thereabouts in normal lighting. In this size, SI2 might not suit but it isn't unheard of that a stone of this size in this clarity grade is eye clean or eye clean ' enough.' DS also brings up a good point that you would also need to check carefully with the vendor that in a stone of this size and clarity grade, that there is no loss of transparency or brilliance, I would personally make any sale contingent on this diamond getting a favourable report from an independent appraiser. But if the stone does check out, fantastic! It's is certainly very well cut, if the above mentioned points are deemed to be not an issue, then great. I hope it does turn out to be eye clean to your standards, please let us know what happens. How much is the diamond if you don't mind me asking?

Thanks. They are asking $37k for it and claiming its 100% eye clean.

What would be a reasonable price to haggle it down-to if in fact eye clean?

Sounds like a reasonable price but it doesn't hurt to haggle. My grandfather never payed full price for anything. The worst they can say is that it's not negotiable. Then ask for any discounts, especially the good guy discount. You're a good guy I'm a good guy. Any discounts for people like us? Apparently it works sometimes. :))

My thoughts are similar to those of Mr Teo's, if it is with an online vendor you might not be successful, they are operating on pretty slim margins anyway and although many offer a discount if you pay by bank wire, a brick and mortar seller might have some more wiggle room, never hurts to ask.
