Hi all,

I have been reading this site and trying to educate myself as much as possible before making one of the more important decisions I will be making in my life. I definitely don't want to mess it up! I have got a pretty good budget to work with but don't want to crazy.

Based on what I have learned I have been looking for a round HA diamond ,1.15-1.25 carats, with a color rating of D-G and clarity of VS2 or better (eye clean) with the best ideal scope possible and a HCA of 2 or less. I have been looking at the vendors recommend by folks on the forum.

I was hoping I could get some feedback on several choices under consideration.

Depending on the feedback I request the ideal scopes for the James Allen diamonds.

Thanks in advance for any help and feedback. I hope I am on the right track!

I don't have time to go through the list carefully right now, but I would not go for the third WF [VS2] due to the location of the inclusion under the table,
and in the JA line up you don't need to spend more for the VVS1.

Be careful with any VS2 with the inclusion under the table when you have other choices.

WHOA.

That's a lot of links.

I'm going to need you to go through and do some narrowing.

It look like you have done a lot of research... AND LEARNED FROM IT! YAY!

I personally wouldn't pay for VVS clarity in a round you don't need it and it's frankly a complete waste of money unless it is for cultural reasons in the far east. So without looking at these, I can tell you I'd take all the VVS stones off the list. I would therefore like you to go through these and rank them for me from order of your preference, and tell me why you like the top three you choose, so I know what is important to you.

I personally would amend this to say, be careful of dark crystal inclusions under the table. Other inclusions are mostly fine, as long as they are not large. But dark inclusions under the table have a tendency to be much more visible.

Hi OP, others are probably better at assisting through specific diamond advice. I just wanted to mention that JA has a great reputation here on PS but wanted to point out that if upgrading was ever a consideration, you have buy a new stone that's double the price of the original. Unless they make exception for True Hearts, but I didn't see that in the terms. Other than that, the other terms are quite nice, 60 day returns, free returns, 70% buy back for one year. Just a thought since you haven't narrowed down your search to that level yet. Also, are you and your intended super color sensitive? If not, maybe going to H is safe?

Hi Gypsy,

Thanks for the feedback and making analyze these and further. I hope I don't embarrass myself. I have noted my thoughts below each. I prefer having the image photo (e.g., ideal scope, hearts, assets, etc. ) as it makes evaluating these easier. One of the reasons why I was looking for feedback since they are not present on most of the JA diamonds.

I hope this helps you help me! I really want this diamond to sparkle and standout.

The light performance map seems better than the others and the inclusions are not prominent dark shadows. I like the bigger size but The dimensions seem slightly smaller than ideal for size. I would but this in the top 3.

With only the GIA information this one is harder to evaluate. The HCA is good. I like the color rating and larger size but again there is shadow in the table where a inclusion is present. The hearts and arrows do not seem as distinctive as others which worries me..wish I had the arrow image.

With only the GIA information and photos it is hard to fully know what to look for but there is an inclusion in the table (cloud) and it shows as shadows in the table in the photo. The arrows are more distinctive than the others. If it was eye clean I would include in top 3.

The computer generated light analysis worries me on this diamond. The green spreads is something i have not seen on other diamond profiles of similiar specs. I really want this diamond to sparkle and this seems to be counter to that. I was hoping someone would notice this and educate me on what I am seeing. As noted by others, I would prefer not have inclusions in the table. This one contains dark shadows where the inclusion is located.

The dimensions on this diamond appear nice given its size. There are inclusions in the table but no shadows. The hearts and arrows seem noticeably less distinctive in the 3 and 6 position. The light map in the center is not designated as fully bright as well. I would include this in the top 3.

ideal light return

1. This is a lovely choice. The idealscope image is really strong. It measures at 7mm with 62.4 depth, so you are right it isn't particularly spready, but it's not over deep and it's got a lovely high table and is just beautiful. http://www.jamesallen.com/loose-diamonds/round-cut/1.31-carat-f-color-vs2-clarity-ideal-cut-sku-126890

2. I don't see this one being eyeclean: http://www.jamesallen.com/loose-diamonds/round-cut/1.31-carat-e-color-vs2-clarity-excellent-cut-sku-237875 It's REALLY expensive and has no advantage over the F VS2 above. So I'd knock this one off the list entirely.

3. Also probably not eyeclean. http://www.jamesallen.com/loose-diamonds/round-cut/1.17-carat-f-color-vs2-clarity-excellent-cut-sku-264805 Not my favorite.

4. I like this one very much: http://www.jamesallen.com/loose-diamonds/round-cut/1.24-carat-g-color-vs2-clarity-ideal-cut-sku-73694

5. And I think this one is my favorite: http://www.jamesallen.com/loose-diamonds/round-cut/1.22-carat-g-color-vs2-clarity-ideal-cut-sku-73772 Price is good, spread is good, and very likey eyeclean. Really nice small table. Strong idealscope image.

You have everything you need for JA. You don't need an ASET for fancies. Only an idealscope. All of those are True Hearts stones so everything is listed on the page. 1, 4, and 5 are the winners for me. I have a preference for #5 because of the price and quality combo. As you have probably noticed I don't believe in paying for anything you can't see.

Also on the list (from other vendors) are these stones:
http://www.whiteflash.com/loose-diamonds/round-cut-loose-diamond-3045747.htm
http://www.goodoldgold.com/diamond/11619/ I adore this one.
http://www.highperformancediamonds.com/index.php?page=view-id-diamond-infinity&id=948 I love Infinity stones so this one is also at the top of the list.

So that is your total short list for me.

Now you just need to pick your favorite and go from there. Is there any one vendor that has settings you like over the others.
