i’ve been lurking on pricescope for the past few days and i’ve learned a tremendous amount thanks to all of you. Now I’m ready to make the purchase and I’m hoping to get some of your expert input.

I’m looking for a round 1.5 carat diamond.

Using the pricescope search I''ve narrowed it down to the following diamonds that fit within my budget:

I would greatly appreciate any thoughts or suggestions.

Thanks in advance!

LOL JulieN!

Mr. Mobley, what JulieN is getting at (in our own PS way

) is if you would consider coming down in clarity and going up in color. Have you actually looked at diamonds in person? Do you know that there are plenty of SI1 and SI2s that are completely eye clean? And as for color, how did you arrive at H? Does your girlfriend have a particularly color sensitive eye (in which case you might go to G) or could you go to an I (or even J) and either save money or get a bigger stone for the same money?

nothing wrong with diamondseeker syndrome at all. my first stone was a G VS2. I personally like to stay above H in color myself but both color and clarity are very personal. I do think you can trust the pricescope vendors to be honest on the eye clean issue so if clarity isn''t a must for peace of mind, you can drop down to SI''s in your searches which may allow for a larger stone (if that is important).

i would definitely consider coming down in clarity and going up in color. I have looked at quite a few diamonds in person and honestly i couldn''t tell much of a difference, so i''m probably not the best judge. I guess i was just searching for what i thought were quality attributes. As you can probably tell, i''ve got lots to learn. My girlfriend isn''t particularly color sensitive, so that''s not a problem.

We must think of a way to differentiate!

H is a great color, but VS1 as others have noted is not necessary. An eye-clean SI would be a much better value and you can either save money, go bigger, or if you really have to go up in color. Really though, an H should be fine at this size if it''s well-cut.

Among these, I tend to like the first......

I prefer diamonds in the "sweet spot"......center of the bullseye, so to speak. The only diamond that I see here with across the board 1A characteristics (AGA DIY grade chart) is the first one, and that would be my pick.

I''m not wild on the crown/pavilion relationships on the rest.....esp not on #3 given that GIA rounds, so it may be even more polar than the numbers would suggest.

I always choose to buy what I THINK might potentially hold its value the most...or possibly what a jeweler might actually buy BACK from me, hehe...

I am a snob when it comes to color, cut, AND clarity, and dont care much about the size of the stone.

I believe I bought my wife an F, VS1 Emerald cut that was 1.35 carats.

The stone I had purchased for a previous enagagement a number of years back was a .93 D VS1. It was a beauty.

Anyways...choose what you like, since youre buying from reputable places. Maybe go take a look at some great stones locally just to get an idea of the differences, than purchase online.
