Hi all,

I''ve been lurking for over a year and finally, my boyfriend and I are ready to purchase, but we need some help.

Is the following diamond worth further investigation (calling it in from an outside source)?

Carat: 1.52
Color: K
Clarity: VS2
Measurements: 7.33 x 7.37 x 4.60
Cut: Excellent
Symmetry: Excellent
Polish: Excellent
Fluorescence: None
Cutlet: None
Comments: Additional Clouds Are Not Shown
Table: 55%
Pavilion: 62.6%
Crown Angle: 35
Pavilion Angle: 41
Crown: 15.5
Girdle: Thin-Medium (faceted)

Any help you guys can offer would be greatly appreciated!!! Thanks.

That stone scores a 2.4 very good on the HCA (cut advisor) and the most desirable results are 2.0 and under. It falls outside of the AGS Ideal specs. It is a little deep. You should try to stay at about 60-62 on depth. Stones that are deep sometimes face up a little smaller than they would if less deep. I like to see 7.4mm in diameter for a 1.5 ct. stone.

So I guess I would say that you could do a little better than this.

Welcome!

The angle combo is the deciding factor here, at 35/41 it is borderline steep deep so I would personally want an Idealscope image of this diamond to check for potential light leakage. It may not be a problem as GIA rounds the numbers, depending on whether they are rounded up or down then it may or may not show leakage, or if it does it might not be much - but an IS is the way to check. It is facing up a little small for its weight, not terrible but some.

Also are you ok with a K colour? You will probably notice a little tint from the side especially, however the lower colours do have their admirers ( like me!)

Thanks so much for your advice! My boyfriend and I will definitely look elsewhere. Have a great holiday!!!

Most welcome and happy holidays to you too! If you could get an Idealscope image we could get a better idea, but if you prefer a higher colour then keep looking.

Lorelei, I just got the IdealScope image. I''m new at this, but I think that I notice some light leakage. What do you think?

Hi! I''m not Lorelei, she''s fast asleep now. (in the UK)

But I''d be glad to throw my 2 cents in. Yes, the IS is showing slight leakage, but I''m not sure if it would be enough to determine with the naked eye. The company that stone is from is reputable, so you could have them give their opinion on whether they think it would be noticeable.

However, as Lorelei said, if you are really wanting something a bit higher in color, we could help you find something. Just let us know!

There is a big price jump at 1.5 carats, so it is pretty easy to go up in color if you try to look just under 1.5 cts.

Thanks a lot Ellen. I''ve contacted the rep about the leakage. I''ll see what she has to say tomorrow and we''ll decide what to do then. I will definitely let you know if I need any help extending my search. Thanks again!

Diamondseeker2006, we''ve been looking at diamonds that offered better colors with less carats, but most were out of our price range. Are we doing something wrong? Maybe we''re not looking in the right places? (We''ve looked at many of PriceScope''s listed vendors.)

mylady, I don't see where you've listed your top budget, but I found this one and thought I'd throw it out there anyway. Fantastic size, very rare in a well cut stone. And nice color and clarity (if eyeclean)!

The price listed does not reflect the 5% PS discount you would receive. If you are at all interested, call and reserve it immediately while you think, this one won't last long!

Diamondseeker and Ellen: Thanks for pulling those diamonds for me. They''re all beautiful, but outside of our current budget. (Ellen, I esp. love the one you pulled for me. It''s perfect. *sigh*) Honestly, I''m hoping that this may convince my bf to make the budget a little bigger.

Anyhoo, we''re going to keep looking and I''ll will post any contenders.

As this was my first post, your help and advice have proven what I''ve seen on Pricescope over the past year: that Priceccopers are really nice and helpful people. Thanks again and hopefully I''ll have an update soon.

Happy New Year!!

Keep us posted!
