I know just enough about diamonds to be dangerous.... to my bank account, so I need some help

I''m in the market for a replacement stone for my wifes wedding ring, currently a .58 ct round cut, bought many many moons ago.

I''d like to replace the stone with something nice for around $3,000. I''ve been searching multiple sites and there are more options than I can deal with, my head is starting to hurt. I''ve been searching this and the diamond.info site.

Since my wife''s stone is .58ct will a .75ct be a noticeable difference? Should I go with a 1.00ct?

For the women out there: Does size really matter? Would you prefer a smaller higher quality stone or would like a larger stone with some imperfections?

The stone will be set in a 14k band, 4 prong setting.

Any inputs would be helpful....thanks

Craig

Craig, are you saying that you want to put the stone in her original setting? If you go with a larger size stone, you''ll have to replace the head (the part with the prongs). In reality, it might not cost that much more to just buy a new setting if it is just a plain solitaire setting.

I think $3000 will buy you an ideal cut .75 H VS2 or a little larger H SI1. There is a big price jump at 1 ct. so I don''t think you''ll want to go there at this price. But if you go to I SI1, you can get closer to a carat. I''ll take a look and see what I can find.

Maybe something like this...at $3032 wire priced...

I used the price search above and these are examples of the in-house ideal cut stones that come up close to your price range in G-I color.
