Hi everyone,

The site is great. I''ve found it *very* informative. Anyways, I''ll dive right in. I''ve got about 2 months to get all this ring searching done. I''m looking to spend under $3k (money is an object and the proposal process involves a trip to France... ).

I''m looking for an antique (or antique style) ring. Don''t care what white metal but it''ll probably end up being white gold because of the budget. I''m looking for a simple art deco or edwardian ring. Then, I guess, depending on the ring I find, I''ll decide on a diamond depending on remaining budget and the stone size that the ring needs. Diamonds for me, are easy. I could go for a .4ct ideal cut, F, VS1/2 up to a .6-7ct, H-I, SI2. There are tons of places online with a surplus of diamonds in that range, so I''m not too worried about that. I''m more worried about finding the right ring. I''ve gone through the entire list of antique jewelry places that was posted earlier on this forum (https://www.pricescope.com/community/threads/links-for-settings-antique-rings-online.16601/). I''ve found a few that I like to give you a better idea of what I''m looking for (minimalist, intricate).

So, now that you know what I''m after, do you have any recommendations? Where do I go? What should I look for? I''m in downtown SF but can drive a ways if I know someone has a good selection that''s not online. Is a custom ring an option?

I''m not from your neck of the woods, so I can''t give any suggestions on where to go. However, FayCullen.com has some really nice antique-y pieces. I believe, though, that it has been warned to check their return policy.

Good Luck, oh, and welcome to Pricescope!

Have you looked at Van Craeynest? gorgeous, intricate, detailed antiques style using the actual technicques of the older style rings. Take a look: vancraeynest.com. Also do a search on here and you will find some good stuff. Their factory is in SF, 3rd and mission I think? I have visited there and it is amazing!

They are pricy, but so worth it, imho.

Lang Antiques is in downtown SF. They''re the ones with that incredible antique and vintage ring display in the window. You might end up finding a true antique there.

Also, M. Lowe & Co. Fine Jewelry in North Berkeley, just down from Chez Panisse, is a lovely place to look. I believe they carry Van Craeynest too--or did, the last time I looked. If you''re in Berkeley, you can stop by Pave on College Ave. in Oakland. Last time I looked they had some pretty vintage-looking styles, though the selection isn''t huge.

You could contact Ari at singlestone if you are willing to purchase online (he''s in LA). I am working with him now and highly recommend him! There''s also wannabuyawatch (online vendor in LA too) that has some really nice stuff.

Good luck!

I''m looking at buying http://www.antiquejewelrymall.com/r464.html .... is there a reason I shouldn''t do this?
