Hello all!
I am in need of some of the fabulous advice that is available on this board...
12.gif

I have asked my hubby for a 5 year wedding anniversary gift of a 5 stone ring... with the stones being bought years 1-5 and (setting bought in 5th year). This way the cost is spread out and I still get something tangible every year.

First, does this seem like a doable idea... meaning would a vendor be willing (at the fifth year) to take my five stones and set them? Or is it better to put the $$ (lets say 650 per year into an account and buy all at once for the 5th year)?

Also, which ever stone I buy in the first year (size/stats) would be the base for the other stones. Currently my sweet spot is .40 (so 2ctw ring in the end) and VS1-SI1 G-K color (with cut being top priority after price). I am looking for the max $$ for each stone to be around $650

I have found a few contenders, this one looked pretty good, wanted to see what you all thought of the idealscope image: (.40, VS2, I) HCA: 2.1

The image looks good. slight leakage that you won''t see.

I''m in your boat now. On my 3rd anni i got my 5 stone. Last year i decided to make it into a full eternity. now i''m accumulating the stones.
There is no right or wrong way to do it. If it''s not a financial burden, i''d get the 5 now. If it''s easier to get a stone a year, do it that way. Just make sure to stay consistent with color and size/measurements if you''re going to spread it out. Or, stick with a vendor that offers trade-ups if you change your mind.
As far a vendor setting it in 5 years, sure why not? There''s really no reason they have to decline.

Exciting project isn it

Another I am looking at (this one scored better on the HCA -- within TIC range), .42 ct, VS2, I :

do you have the numbers for both?

the second, while it has a great image, looks painted to me (JA, right?). Not sure how much and if it would have any effect on the brilliance. Hoping someone like Storm can chime in.

I''m planning a five stone for our five year anniversary, too. (couple years left

) I''m planning to just pay for it all at once, but I like the idea of buying one for each year. The only slight worry I would have about this is that you may want something else by the time year five came around!

Oh, and make sure you can fit .4 x 5 stones on your finger. Don''t think my small hands could manage

elle -- yes, both are from JA.
I am not sure where to look to find out if the girdle is painted... would it be on the cert?

icekid -- I have to wait 5 years!! (well only 4 more I guess since the first anny is this August)... But I am positive that I will still want a 5 stone by then... and even if I don't I could just re-purpose them... but I love rings and I love diamonds... how can I go wrong? hee hee

And my finger size is 7 so I wanted to go with bigger stones... 7 is big on PS! lol!

ETA -- elle what size is the finger that you wear your 5 stone on?

Hey Posh - i''m also a 7, but the 5 stone that WF made for me is a 7 1/2 as I wear it with a wide wedding band and i hate the sausage look. You may wanna go for 7 1/4 as even alone the ring will be wide. My anni is also in august :D

Ok, back to the stones: between the images, numbers and their AGS0 grade, they look like winners! SNAP ''EM UP! (or at least one)

But if you''ve decided to go with a stone a year, remember that JA''s upgrade policy requires you to spend double. That''s something you might want to consider if you change your mind 2 years down the road and decide to go with another type of ring, or different size stones.

You have now solidified my thought that .40 is the size I want (cant afford the .50s... lol).
Thanks for all the feedback on the stones, I will forward them onto hubby for his consideration...

Thanks also for the ring info, once again you have been a big help!!!

You''re most welcome

40''s are going to be a great size. It''s going to look almost identical to mine. In fact, had I known then what I know now, I would have gone a little smaller too. (same look, save money, can''t lose).

Keep up posted on the project!
