I am guessing that the depth is 60.1 and table is 58 to achieve the HCA of !.8. If the depth is really at 58, it would probably have a very thin girdle which is more prone to chip. I think an idealscope would help determine leakage.

GIA report says this re: the girdle....

"Medium, Faceted (3.0%)"

what are your thoughts now? thanks!

No expert here but I got a very similar 1.45 ct. for $9,500 from a trusted family friend.
The only differences I see are the table/depth. So it seems like it's a good price. My specs are below

7.30 x 7.31 x 4.47 mm
cut grade excellent
polish excellent
symmetry excellent
table 57
depth 61.2
girdle thin to med faceted
fluorescence faint
Color/Clarity: I/SI2 GIA

Well, I saw it before and hoped someone else would comment! I am not wild about a 32.5 crown angle. Someone had one recently that chipped with a lower crown angle, so I lean toward the 34-35 range for crown angle, or just a little lower. Just be sure you get a separate jewelry policy that covers the stone for loss or damage. And make sure the stone is eyeclean from the sides unless you are setting it in a halo or bezel. It is really easier to comment when there is a magnified picture or idealscope image...so that is partly why you didn't get many comments.

yea, i may let this one go and go through JA. im really hesitant about buying online and JA seems to be the most user friendly of them all.

The vendors who give the necessary information besides James Allen are Good Old Gold, WhiteFlash, and Brian Gavin. I think you are making a good decision to look a little more!

ive got a hold on a stone at JA. 1.73ct I/SI2, 0.8 HCA, EX/EX/EX. it is more expensive but tbh, i felt like i was going the cheaper route with this other stone and i dont want to look back and know i didnt get the most amazing stone i could afford. as soon as pics come back on the JA stone, I will post them here for all your discerning eyes.

the reason why i havent moved up the the color/clarity scale is after seeing probably 100 stones in person, I could tell a VS1/H from an SI2/G from a SI1/I. Maybe I just dont have an eye for diamonds, but when I asked the jeweler to mix up stones, I was consistently picking one of the "worst" stones from the bunch (though they were all very nice and completely eye clean). So, in terms of the 4Cs....I dont want to sacrifice on cut at all, and I'd like to get the biggest stone my budget will allow, while still having a lively and pretty diamond. As long as the stone has nice fire (which it should given the 0.8 HCA score), is eye clean, isnt yellow, and is BIG, I'm ok with going a bit down the clarity/color scale for a bigger, better cut stone.

Keep in mind that the jeweler is doing this under those crazy jewelry lights. ANYTHING looks good in those, including my dirt encrusted czs. The REAL test is seeing those outside and in other everyday lighting. I always take stones to a window and try it in a hallway, etc.

Yep, webdiva is totally right about that. You can't tell a thing about color in jewelry store lighting! If you think size is the most important factor to your girlfriend and that she is not the type to be interested in the specs, then you'll be fine regardless. And I think most I color stones are fine. But I'd be very careful with clarity because it can really bug a person once they can see inclusions. I would only do SI2 if it was extremely eye clean from the top and sides.

ok guys, that is thread re: the stone i am thinking of buying from JA today. regarding the lighting in jewelry stores, i walked the diamonds all around the store, turned off all lights and went by the window, and still couldnt determine a difference. granted these all were nice stones, but the difference between G, H, and I to me was non-existent. regarding inclusions, if i put the stone 2in from my face and studied it for 30-60sec, yes, i could see them if i knew where they were. but, to me, that is eye clean. nobody is going to take out a loupe while we are at a friend's house and examine the stone. i just cant justify paying up for VS and sacrificing size.

I'm with you on this...people look at a diamond simply look at the performance and brightness of the stone. My radiant had a white inclusion that if you looked long enough one could see but the stone was awesome so I didn't care. Got compliments from strangers and friends who had big bucks for diamonds. Mine was rather inexpensive for a 2c that faced up very large.

It is funny to me how people obsess over mind cleanness on such a tiny little rock. Oh, well to each his own. Was watching a video on GOG and he brought out how color has only to do with the rarity of the diamond and not the beauty. He proves that over and over with his videos. You can have a high colored stone that is dead. A well cut SI2 that is relatively eye-clean can be a great diamond if the cut and performance is excellent.

everyone has different preferences/tolerances...nothing wrong with that.
