Hi fellow antique jewelry lovers,

I am on a quest for my dream upgrade stone.

Here is one I am looking at very seriously. I have it on hold with Old World Diamonds. (BTW, Adam has been providing excellent service and communication.) He knows I am posting here for stone feedback. :)

The pic/listing is here:
http://www.oldworlddiamonds.com/inv_details.php?ID=2032&SHAPE=EU&PAGE=46

A video is here:
http://www.youtube.com/user/OldWorldDiamonds#p/u/3/V4pRsFWb1RI

I also have the EGL cert:

****************************************************
EGL USA

Weight: 3.71
Shape and cut: Old European

Measurements: 9.93 x 9.73 x 6.22 mm

Depth: 63.3
Table: 47
Crown: 17.8
Pavilion: 41.7
Girdle: Very thin to Sl thick

Culet: Medium

Polish: Good
Symmetry: Good

Clarity grade: VS2
Color grade: K

Flourescence: None

Comments: None
****************************************************

So, does anything jump out immediately? To me the cut looks pretty, although I do see some black inclusions (mainly in the video). Do we feel they are serious?

Also, how does the price seem?

Lastly, as far as I know, there are no definitive measurements for calculating an OEC's beauty... the closest thing I could find was Dave Atlas's article here: https://www.pricescope.com/journal/screening_chart_old_european_cut_diamonds/

If I'm reading his table right, this stone seems to come out pretty well. Am I wrong?

Anything else I should be noticing/considering?

Thank you in advance so much for any feedback or advice! :)

I am certainly no expert, but I didn't think with a VS2 you should be able to actually see the black inclusions? I could definitely see them. For that money, I would want something that was eye clean at the very least. Just my opinion!

I'm no expert, but have you seen this 3.62 OEC at JBEG? It's $25K (including the mounting, so I don't know what the stone would be on it's own). The color is a bit lower, but it's about the same size and a lot less $$$....

They also have a 4.5 ct stone that's K/VS2 for $54K....

Check it out....

That's the 3.62 OEC I nearly bought, Yenny, that stone just has something about it, it's a fireball, I just love it...

Thanks everyone.

Yes, I have been all over JbEG's website for ages. I love the 4.50 too. But it costs more also. Grace is wonderful to work with btw.

I do like the 3.62 too, but is just too warm for me. I love the faceting, but I know I couldn't live with that much warmth. I am looking for something that faces up fairly white or creamy.

Still open to any other opinions on this 3.71 or suggestions on anything else... :)

Anne, have you talked to Adam about the inclusions in the stone? I bought an OEC from there 2 weeks ago, and he was very helpful and candid about the stone I bought. Also, you could ask him about the possibility of securing other stones for you to consider. The numbers you posted concerning the ring's table and depth are almost identical to the numbers on mine, and I'm very happy with it. Are you close enough to go see the stone in person?
