I have agreed to help buy my niece''s prom dress. She really likes this one www.serendipityprom.com/kate%20hudson%20prom%20dress.php I am just not sure on the quality or sizing and the are no returns. She goes to a boarding school in Alaska and has no real access to stores. Plus her senior prom is on the 19th so we have one shot at getting the right dress on time. She is a slender size 4 and probably 5''5". Has anyone seen this dress or have any opinions on it? Thanks for your help.

Make sure the measurements match. I ordered my daughter a prom dress that wasn''t returnable, and it didn''t fit. I had to order a larger one. My experience is they fit a little small in general, as we''ve picked out formal dresses locally too and I was surprised that she needed a larger size. If it''s slightly big, it can be tailored down maybe, but too small is just a waste of money. That dress is beautiful btw.

Agreed. Plus this dress looks better a little loose. It seems to float over curves instead of hug them. Know what I mean?

pretty dress--but i do think it would need to fit very well--if it is not well cut and/or lined this fabric will be hard to pull off--it''ll show everything!
So even if she is slim it''ll need to fit well.

Personally, i would not buy a dress for such a big event sight unseen with no returns. Is there no way she can make a day-trip somewhere and buy something off the rack?

I wouldn''t want to order something with a no return policy. My daughter typically wears a size 2 but her prom dress was a 1. You really need to try them on.

That style is very popular and so she can easily find it somewhere that does returns. I think it is a red flag that they do not show the front of their dress, just the inspiration. Not only that, but the back of the one they do show has odd puckers over the ribbon. I would look elsewhere.

I have seen this dress. My daughter''s friend got it several years ago when Kate Hudson first wore it. It is meant to be loose fitting and is made from beautiful smooth silky satin. It''s revealing for the bust line. She will need some of those stick-on breast coverings otherwise it will be nippleisious! It also will probably be long but they purposely make them that way to accommodate high heals. My daughter got one, same fabric different style. Hers was too long and I just took scissors and carefully trimmed off an inch. No heaming. It was fine for the prom, didn''t unravel.

I have found, having a daughter that went to many proms and formal dances, to let her get what she wanted because it''s going to be worn once and enjoyed forever with the memory and photos. All the shops we went to that sell prom dresses had a no return policy. They are on to the girls who want to buy it, wear it and return it.

The $225 price is actually good!

I would be VERY hesitant to order from a store that doesn't allow returns. The dress looks like it may be very thin, possibly see-through... Has she looked at www.windsorstore.com? They offer exchanges and returns and have some pretty nice dresses.

Girls in prom dress.

Thank you all for your wonderful advice. I went ahead and ordered the dress. Only after I called and talked to customer service about the sizing and they took $40 off when I ordered shoes. Everything should fit fine and it is what she wanted. I really wish she could try on the dress but she attends a boarding school on a rural island in Alaska. Believe me when I say that there are very few stores available. She is very laid back about the whole thing. I am the one stressing out!
