Need opinion about H&A from professionals

I am torn between two diamonds and I would like some help.

I have a H&A diamond with a great ASET image (although the H&A image was not provided) 1.53 Ct H VS2 diamond. The actual picture of the diamond is fantastic (you can see the arrows beautifully). However, when I look at the angles, it technically doesn't have the most ideal numbers (it is close though).

Table 57%
Depth 61.6%
Crown angle 35
Pavillion angle 41
medium to sightly thick faceted 3.5%

HCA score of 2.3 with "very good" throughout the board. Technically however, it doesn't fit the H&A criteria per heartsandarrows.com

There is another H&A diamond40 with great ASET, Idealscope, and H&A images 1.535 Ct J VS2 diamond. All the angles are great with an HCA score of 1.6

Table 56.5
Depth 61.9
Crown Angle 34.8
Pavillion angle 40.8

Here's the kicker. Both are nearly same price. So do I go for the diamond with the better cut (I don't know how negligible or significant that difference would be in regards to how much light it reflects) or the one with 2 grades better color? I cannot see any tint in a H color but I can definitely see the color in a J diamond from the side. However, I'm getting a halo setting that may cover the sides? Honestly, I don't think my fiance-to-be will care either way but it is a dilemma that's been bothering me.

What would you guys pick?

can you upload the pictures to the forum? The first one looks like GIA numbers. You don't need to worry about HCA with that one.

By the way, both diamonds are either GIA triple excellent of AGL000. Also, I'm pretty sure one photograph is "posed" better than the other.

If the only thing holding you back from the H was the angles, then you don't need to worry about that. Also the center spot/table reflection on the H is green, which means it is less than 40.8 degrees, some discrepancy there with GIA's 40.9/41 value.

Cool. I was leaning towards the H color vs J anyway (why not?). Thanks for your opinion

Could you elaborate on that green spot in the middle? I have seen some hearts and arrows where the middle is red (term is painted?). Will it affect it's spread, light return, etc... Or will the diamond just be a bit darker in the middle?

no, it doesn't have anything to do with painting, and it will not appear darker, affect spread, or light return. you don't need to worry about it. I only pointed it out because it seems to not agree with the GIA numbers, but that possibly could be the result of averaging and rounding. You can ask for a Sarin if that bothers you, but the ASET looks great. the BGD stone also has a green center, with a couple angles looking like it's about to be on the cusp of turning red.

As JulieN suggested the red/green center in an ASET image is simply a feature of the ASET. A pavilion angle of over ~40.8 degrees will give a red center and a pavilion angle of under ~40.8 degrees will give a green center. This of course also depends on how the pavilion angles are measured, averaged, and rounded on the reports. By itself a red vs green center has minimal impact on how a stone looks in person. Painting only affects the girdle. IMO both stones have minimal amounts of painting based on the images.

Stone #1 looks great! I would absolutely choose an H over a J any day when one looks that good.

Thanks everyone. I chose the first stone! 3 weeks until the ring is complete
