Also have a GIA report, which grades it as E color, VS2 clarity. When I put all the specs in AGA/NAJA Cut Class estimator, they all come out 1A, but I know that's just a guide.

The diamond looks shiny in person to my noob eye but I don't have an ASET report and this is the only light report I have to go on. It rates EX in light tests, but I'm concerned with the light leakage atop the stone. Am I just being paranoid? I just want to make sure I get a stone that will sparkle. I'm being overly cautious and worrisome I think because I've never spent this much money on something I don't drive or live in. Can anyone give me thoughts on this GCAL? I can use all the help I can get. Thanks.

Does the vendor have a variety of princesses for you to compare with? If so, compare it with some others of similar size/colour with different proportions, different number of chevrons, see what your eyes think. Be sure to compare in a variety of lights - in the spotlights in the counter, in a shaft of sunlight by a window, in the diffuse back office lights.

I have no idea what tool(s) were used to acquire that 95% brilliance mark, so... without a lot more info on the virtues and failings of those tools that score means absolutely nothing to me. What *you* think is much more important, and you are in the excellent position of being able to see and compare before you buy...

Do you mean the X in the middle? Check out slg's old thread on this - https://www.pricescope.com/community/threads/dark-spot-in-center-of-princess-cut-diamonds.155886/

Wow, thanks - that thread is exactly what I was referring to. It seems like there's never a set answer with these things. I guess I'm afraid I won't be able to tell the difference since I don't know any better. I trust the technology more than my own eye, and I don't want to pay for something (in this case, EX light performance) that's not noticable. I got excited that I found an E color stone in my price range (something that I can tell the difference on), but if it doesn't sparkle enough the color doesn't matter to me.

Let me ask another question - can you ask a dealer that jeweler that relies solely on GIA/GCAL for all of their diamonds to get an ASET or IdealScope or something like that for a specific diamond? I've found most of the non-internet based companies don't rely on use this light imaging, with the exception of GemEx that I've seen here and there. I'd trust something like this more than the GCAL. Thanks.

GCAL has it right, or is always very, very close to right. They are not as well known, but there are not anything like any other seconday lab out there. You can trust GCAL possibly more than GIA although, like I said, they are just not as widely understood. If the trade was a bit more flexible, we could use GCAL reports just as well as GIA or AGS....

Oldminer can you tell us more about their light performance analysis - the tools, what metrics they use, how they determine that ultimate percent value?

Looks pretty good.
