Hi All,

I am looking to get stud earnings for my wife. I am so bad at picking stones out. I have no idea what size to get, she is a petite woman, and 29. My budget is $1000-$1200 top's. Any help would be greatly appreciated.

I was looking on white-flash, and they recommended these, can I get a bigger size for my money? These are 0.3ct

I did see those as well, but I am a little weary about buying those "ready to go" sets as they are not certified diamonds.

Fair enough, I just thought I'd offer them up as options. ::)

Thanks, I do appreciate your response!

Check out Brian Gavin website also, Leslie is easy to work with. I bought studs for the daughter from them, very pleased.

Size - depends very much on what she likes/her stature/what she wears/where she works/... my personal preference would be for a more significant size given her age.these for example, would need to request ISs:

I think a lot depends upon earlobe size. .60 tcw stones look much bigger on smaller lobes. My lobes are big (unfortunely) so my .82 tcw look nice but I could go a bit bigger even though I'm petite (and older than 29) lol

.30 each stones is a great size and WF has an awesome upgrade policy so seems like the perfect option.

haha yikes, foot in mouth! Guess you'd better get working on that Dani ;))

I just prefer bigger studs, and age seems as good a way as anything to justify it :halo:

MC makes a good point re. earlobe size!

Oh, I am definitely working on it! Going to take about a year to save up, but I'll get there! I'm actually hoping for stones very much like those that the OP is considering. My wee martinis need big sisters.

Age is good reason to justify. I'm thinking in a few years my next "mile stone" b-day would be good excuse to upgrade my earrings. Only thing is I told DH that i'd never trade in my earrings, so I may be stuck. I tried on ones that were around 2 ctw and they looked PERFECT. I'm NOT at all into bling and wear tiny diamonds, but the larger ones with my hair being past my shoulders looked completely proportionate! I'd be happy with those and my little diamond wedding set! ;)

Just to add: Upgradable stones are the way to go. It's a never-say-never world here on PS and over time, I've learned that.

Thanks for the responses everyone! I am not sure what I'm going to do now. I live in Philly so I might just take a trip down to jewelers row and see what they have. Any recommendations?

Hi
Just to add my advice. I purchased diamond studs last week from BGD - they are 0.344 and 0.345 each G SI1 and are their signature hearts & arrows diamonds. They came in under $1200 (14kt white gold martini settings) and they are absolutely gorgeous! I received them yesterday and they are the perfect size for my ears. I only have small earlobes so anything larger I don't think would suit. Good luck for your search and you can always send emails to vendors and ask their advice. BGD were fantastic to deal with. Oh, I forgot to mention that I am very petite too 5ft

Leave your wallet at home and don't buy anything without putting it on hold and thinking about it over night.

2nd. And remember all jewelry stores use lighting to dazzle up even mediocre stones so it can be difficult to get an accurate cut of a stone. Be sure to ask for AGS ideal cut stones. If the person tells you IGI or other weird oddball labs are BETTER then walk out of the place!

okay so I am ready to make a descision here,

Its either going to be this set!

Help me make the decision please. Can't decide which is better. I personally think the I SV2 is better b/c the price is about $80 less, but concerned that its not the right choice because H is considered more desirable.

I prefer the whiteflash stones.

Any particular reason for that?

Bump any reason to spend the extra $80 on the. H ones from WF?

Ditto, for the same reason.

Does one vendor have a setting that you like more? That may help you decide. If you want bezel settings I think those two vendors have different styles-look at the part where it hits the earlobe, one is more pointed and one is more rounded. I think you are fine with I color in that size, I like higher color but with earrings of that size they will look white and sparkly. I have J studs and notice some body color when I really look at them (like scrutinize them) but when they are on they look perfect!

I am just going to get a standard 4 prong setting, so no vendor preference, just want to make the best decision, the WF ones are nice, but the BGD ones are a little bit better price, only concern is that she will think they are slightly yellow.

I'd go with the cheaper pair.

Diamond body colour (of colourless stones) is graded as if a small chip of diamond is knocked off, based on the colour of that chip. A larger diamond is a composite of more tinted material, so it will look more tinted from the side than a smaller stone. A well cut stone that returns white light edge-edge will appear brighter, and therefore whiter, than a poorly cut stone.

In a stone of that size there just aren't enough layers of material to saturate colour in a GIA/AGS "I", and you'd really only see this colour from the side - which is not visible when the stones are worn on someone's ears.

Unless you had transparent earlobes. Which would be odd. Cool, but odd.

ETA: Sorry, it's late. My kooky is running overtime.

Agree with Yssie, go with lower price.
My 2 cents, bought a pair of studs from BGD with the friction backs for my daughter, she lost one, so collected on the insurance.
Next pair I bought for her from BGD has the "LaPousette" backs, check them out, they hold onto the studs the best of all the clips, I know BGD has them, they be add a few dollars to the purchase but I cannot tell you enough they are worth it, especially if you don't want to lose them, and may not have them insured. Just my 2 cents (From a guys point of view).

Edit: Wanted to add one more thing, did you look at the martini settings from BGD, they are light and very popular.
