Hi Everyone. I am really new here. I have several projects I am trying to get started. I have some jewelry from the past 20+ years. I item is a pair of sapphire studs aprox. 75 cts each. I do not wear studs any more because I wear my hair longer and I am bored with them. I am considering making them into a three stone ring with a diamond in the center. What size diamond would you suggest for the center?
Do you have any photos or recommendations for a setting design.
I would like to wear this as a RHR and most likely for dressier occasions.

Thanks for all your help.

i would get a diamond that is the same measurement (ie 8mm by 8mm) and bezel set each stone for a dramatic and classic look. If you make the diamond larger than the sides it will look more engagement ring like in my opinion.

I''d put a gemstone other than a diamond as the center stone. Otherwise, it might look more like an engagement ring. Just my opinion.

I think a RHR with a diamond center and sapphires on the sides would look beautiful. I''d think a center stone of 1ct or larger would be perfect.

Sapphires that weigh .75 cts. are not going to be 8mm...not sure if you were meaning that or just giving an example.

I think a ring with a diamond in the middle with sapphire sides is a classic look that is fine for either an e-ring or a right hand ring. In fact, that is my number one pick if I were to do a right hand ring for myself! I''d say that anywhere from 1-1.5 cts. would be fine for the diamond.

just an example--plus not sure what her budget is so that may be a factor. another idea is to buy an OEC for the center--less expensive, gorgeous and would be a real vintage look

Okay, good! Just wanted to be sure! She''d be looking for a very expensive diamond if she had to go to 8mmm! I certainly love OEC''s, too!

another thought for a center stone would be something like this--could be very very pretty.

I love this combination and would highly recommend it!

Thanks everyone for the great ideas...
As for budget, I am open though I do not want to go overboard as I have a diamond ring in mind to purchase in the winter and it will be very pricey. I think for the sapphire ring in $4000-$7000 range would be fine.

A couple more questions if everyone does not mind.

1) any photos or links to settings. I am more a modern gal then vintage.

2) These sapphires have no certificates, should have them sent out to be certified before they are set or is that not necessary since they are so small? IF so where should they be sent? The appraisal just says total ct wt 1.50 and ceylon blue, small inclusions. The appraisal is from the jeweler the earrings were purchased from. They are no longer in business, it was a pop and mom B&M and pop decided to retire so he closed about 5 years ago.

Thanks again for all the help and suggestions.

Wow. I''m an idiot. How did I miss the fact that you have sapphire stones? I''m sorry. In that case, yeah a diamond would be great. Do you know the diameter of the stones? I would probably go with a diamond the same diameter as the side stones. I''d also set the ring in something really basic and clean. It could still end up looking like an engagement ring, but who cares.

Here''s a setting I would consider:

I like that trellis setting also...is that modern enough for you or are you looking for more modern?
linky for it

I have seen bar set that look pretty modern.

Thanks everyone.

I measured the diameter of the stone with my sewing tape measure and my middle age eyes so it is approx.5 mm.

I like the setting from blue nile and also this one from Mark Morrell http://www.mwmjewelry.com/January-05/slides/Robb-R-CP-004s.html

Can you tell me if they are similar?

Thanks,
Jean
