I was looking at this stone on-line and was wondering what it would be like based on the numbers and it's very small table. It has a GIA cert dated 2006.

Here are the stats

2.0 ct RB
L
SI2
8.10 x 8.15 x 4.94
Table 52% is also showed an added angle off the table of 55% ?!? not sure what this means
Depth 60.8
Crown 32.0
Pav. 40.4
girdle med - thick

Any feedback would be appreciated

Assuming this is a modern RB (and the angles make me think it might be an old cut... is it?), if eye clean, it is likely a nice example of what is called a BIC -- brilliant ideal cut. The shallow crown height means the stone most likely excells in white light return with possible detriments in fire. Depending on what you like in a diamond, it could be nice. Will you be able to see it in person and/or get an ideal scope image for the stone?

The 55% is likely the star measurement.

It is listed with a vendor who has vintage stones so I'm guessing the stone is an older one. Unfortunately, I won't be able to see it in person or get ideal scope. When I ran the numbers it seemed good and the price is VERY good. What do you think about the small table? I've never personally viewed a diamond with this small a table so don't have anything to compare it to.

I love a small table, it tends to increase fire, but since this is probably an older cut that should be a given.

Do you have photos? Can you confirm with the seller it is an older cut stone? Also, where are the stats coming from -- does it have a cert (EGL is common with old cuts). I ask because it seems to me that with these older stones much of the appeal is in the appearance of the facets and personal preference. They are so ideosyncratic that you cannot really judge them by the numbers.

Hi Dreamer_D. Thanks for your feedback. This is a GIA certified stone -- report #15194325. I was a little confused as the cut grade was only rated as good but it scored well (1.6 BIC) on the HCA. I'm sure I can get a more information from the vendor if I decide to proceed. I'll need to check if it's really eye clean as well.

If it is an older cut then that can explain the cut grade. GIA does not use the HCA ;)) and I think it known for grading old cuts poorly on cut grade, which is why many/most are sent to EGL. Or it might just be a poorly cut stone! The HCA is a rejection tool and cannot tell you to buy or not, all it means is that it is worth considering further.

GIA averages 8 sections, rounds the c/p (c to nearest 0.5, pav *up* to nearest 0.2), then records those dimensions and gives a cut grade based on those recorded dimensions, so there's lots of room for error if taking those given numbers as gospel - I too would be worried about possibly quite severe obstruction issues
