Hi,

Glad that I found this place! It turns out that I only have a month to look for an engagement ring - I will be out of the country by mid June. I just found this one on idonowidont. The ring is beautiful with a big rock. The price also looks good to us. The only thing that concerns me is the appraisal. What the seller shows is an appraisal from the jewelry shop I guess... I was wondering how much credibility does it have. Would this be a good buy?
http://www.idonowidont.com/diamonds/custom-designed-ladies-engagement-ring

I would also appreciate any recommendations for a round diamond. We have a budget for 6-7k. Color G/H. Clarity SI1/SI2. Hopefully, the rock can be bigger. I am OK to trade the color with the size though...I am totally new to those beautiful rocks and I am still trying hard to catch up with all those knowledge. Any suggestions would be welcome! :read:

Thank you a lot for the help!

Don't buy that ring seems extremely included.

SI3==I1 clarity. I was guessing at least SI2 before I zoomed in.

Don't buy that ring, bad news written all over it.

IF you really want the best quality let us help you find one. You will be in the 1 ct range for your budget, but we can at least help you find a great performing diamond.

Thank you all for the reply. It seems that I need to go for another one... Yes, it would be great if you guys could help me find a good one. Really appreciate it!

What about this diamond? Both are bigger and MUCH NICER with superior optics (AGS 0 & HCA 0.9, respectively)...

http://www.jamesallen.com/loose-diamonds/round-cut/1.06-carat-j-color-vs2-clarity-sku-283734 $5260 (6.5 mm, but lower color)

http://www.jamesallen.com/loose-dia...-g-color-vs2-clarity-excellent-cut-sku-262283 $5440 (6.23 mm, higher color & smaller table)

with any of these settings (and you'll still be in your budget of $6-7K):

http://www.jamesallen.com/engagemen...k-double-halo-pave-engagement-ring-item-17877 $1300 ...for a blingtastic look and MAJOR finger coverage  my fave!

http://www.gabrielny.com/engaged/style/ER10276W44JJ $1015 **you could get the matching band for another $825!

I can't manage to get the gia cert up so I don't know the depth of this stone. And my recommendation is determined by how deep this stone is but tentatively.

I know its a j but look how white it faces up

With this (I'd email them see if they'd knock it to 750)

Love the OEC ...much larger @ 6.7mm!!
Looks like we were looking at similar settings too!

Thanks, Niel. What depth do you recommend for the diamond? I am contacting the seller for the details.

Thanks for searching! The blingtastic one is really stunning! So for the settings, do they have to stay with the diamond with 6.5mm?

Niel, do you think this setting will accommodate a 6.7mm stone? If so, this would be a great deal! :appl:

(and it would keep you from buying it...) :halo:

If you look at the appraisal the stone that was in that ring was 1.13cts and a MRB. So it very well may.

I'll tell you a little secret, OP, I was looking at that setting myself, I got them to lower the price and offer returns if it didn't fit my stone, so maybe you could try for that. I ended up not going for it as I still couldn't justify the price as it isn't for an e ring, BUT, they have it at half the price of BN website. And maybe even the people who set the stone could add millgraining, add a little antique to match the stone.

I'd want the depth to be somewhere close to a MRB, like 62-63 ish. If its like 69% or something probably wouldn't fit. But like I said you might be able to fanagle a return from the seller so who knows.

Got the GIA certificate. It says 57.3% for depth. How does that sound?

Here is the certificate online - http://www.gia.edu/cs/Satellite?reportno=2155943786&childpagename=GIA%2FPage%2FReportCheck&pagename=GIA%2FDispatcher&c=Page&cid=1355954554547

Check out this option:

1.01ct, J, VVS2 (with strong blue fluorescence)
http://www.highperformancediamonds.com/index.php?page=view-id-diamond-default&id=41

That stone is a top-notch cut, and possesses fluorescence, which will be particularly beneficial for a J-colored stone.

In addition, I believe Wink (High Performance Diamonds) will give you 15% off of a setting, if you buy the stone through him.

You should be able to get a great stone, with a great setting, at a great price, with this option.

Best of luck!

I like that antique stone quite a bit for the size and price as well as its uniqueness factor. My question about depth was if it would fit that setting I posted. I would get that stone. I might get that setting if they'll come down on price and allow returns (and its already about her size).

If not there's lots of other setting you could set that stone in, but I like that one and if they come down a hundred or more I'd think you got out of it with a nice price.

I'd just personal message them and be like "would you consider 750 and return shipping if I pay postage".

What's the worst they would say

I do believe the antique stone is just about the same size as a modern round that's 1.13 CTS. So I would thiiiink it should fit perfect. But I'd want to make sure the recipient had about the same finger size

I have another newbie question... May I have any suggestions to find a good place for diamond service if I purchase the stone and the setting from separate places?

Rocky Racoon,

Thanks for the recommendation. What is the differences between strong blue fluorescence and no fluorescence? How does it look like - blue-ish or white-ish? I saw various opinions when I search for this online. Thanks~

I have a 5, actually 4.5 to be better. I think I will resize it if I buy this.

Just make sure its not too different from the original size. You don't want to size something too much from the original

Depends in where you get the setting. If you buy on eBay a local jewler could set it, or maybe even ask the place you get the stone. If you buy the setting from a jeweler they can usually set the stone for you.

You can read about fluorescence here: https://www.pricescope.com/wiki/diamonds/diamond-flourescence

I find it to be a positive attribute and only purchase stones that posses fluorescence. Some are less adamant about fluor in their stones, but can still appreciate this characteristic. As long as it doesn't have any negative attributes as a result of the fluorescence (VERY rare), these stones can often present a great value.

The one I had posted has already been vetted by Wink to have no negative characteristics from fluor, so you are good to go!

Just an idea, as i know this isn't a round... BUT

This setting is an amazing steal, and would fit you with only a sliiiight sizing up, which i think it could take. here is what you'd pay retail

It would fit a large CTW asscher. And though it won't look as big as a round, it'll be more ctw. So if thats important, its an idea. with some searching you could fit about a 1.2 ct in there.

Thanks for the suggestions and recommendations from all of you. I got the one from Grace. Really looking forward to seeing that!

Niel, thanks for the recommendation!
I did not buy the setting yet though it looks so beautiful to us. We really like it (and the price as well :wink2: ). We feel like it would be too much if we resize 1.5 down and is still worried about if it can accommodate the stone. So, we were thinking of picking one in HongKong when we have our trip there this June.

Completely understandable. I wouldn't want to size it down that much either! I was just wondering if not that one what setting you were looking at.

Maybe something like what you suggested before? I still have $1500 in my budget for the setting, but I am not sure what style best suits me. That's why I thought maybe I can try on different styles with the center diamond in store. I have long and thin fingers. I have uploaded a photo of my left hand... I don't think I can go with those are either too simple or too complicated. Maybe some pavement diamonds but not too much?

Also, I heard that the rings in Hong Kong mostly are made of platinum instead of white gold. Which one is better?
