Need help selecting the best ASETs (pics included) Gypsy!

Re: Need help selecting the best ASETs (pics included) Gyps

I like most of the WF stones that are almost square and that have smaller tables. I do not like the JA stone, table too large and .1 difference in diameter. All of the ASET's are fine. I guess these would be my favorites:

Re: Need help selecting the best ASETs (pics included) Gyps

Thanks diamondseeker. Also I noticed on your links, the last 2 are the same url. Not sure if you meant that. As for the reference to the JA stone, there are actually two of them, one is 70.7% table and one 70.8%. I had read that a table of 70% was still fine even for AGS0?

Thanks! :)

Re: Need help selecting the best ASETs (pics included) Gyps

Yeh Im liking both of these as well. Would you say these are both similar in quality or would one of them outclass the other? I think right now its identifying the setting...

JA is the 0.54 Common Prong
WF is either the Elena or the Petite Open Cathedral

With their respective diamonds above

Oops! No, I did not mean to put the same link twice! All the links are closed now so forgive me if I don't go back through them all, as it took a good bit of time! There is only one link to a James Allen stone in your first post. I clicked on all the links to look at the actual stone images and ASETs. I see now that the last stone did not have a link, so I didn't consider it due to the table size and no other images.

AGS obviously includes 70% tables in ideal cut, but you will notice that vendors with branded stones like WF generally are more selective and choose smaller tables (looking through a list of about 30 diamonds, I'd say the majority have 60-65% tables). At least most of the ones I have seen that are ACA princess cuts have the smaller tables. I think it is more attractive in any cut. I do not like large tables on rounds, asschers, emerald cuts, or princess cuts.

Re: Need help selecting the best ASETs (pics included) Gyps

I think they are equally well cut. Obviously some people (myself included for the most part) have a preference for smaller tables and higher crowns. But with princesses... I personally think a 70 percent table is fine.

I think you just need to chose one and go for it.

Re: Need help selecting the best ASETs (pics included) Gyps

Thanks guys. I called both companies to get more info on those 2 stones (1.27 from JA and 1.236 from WF)

On the WF one, she mentioned that there is a crystal on it (on the surface left side) that is DARK. The fact that its dark, is that a cause for alarm?

Is there anything else I should be checking to try to decide between these 2, and ultimately, which vendor

Thanks guys, you rock! (no pun intended)

Re: Need help selecting the best ASETs (pics included) Gyps

If the crystal is even possibily visible I'd skip

Re: Need help selecting the best ASETs (pics included) Gyps

Visible to the eye or under magnification?

Heres what I was told:
"Both diamonds have dark colored crystals, which are extremely tiny and barely noticeable with 10x magnification. They are 100% eye clean and have a terrific amount of sparkle. The color is almost identical, and there is no difference in face up size. "

She was referring to the 1.236 (H VS1) and the 1.201 (G VS2), both from WF.

Thoughts?

Re: Need help selecting the best ASETs (pics included) Gyps

If it's barely visible under magnification and they say it's 100% eye-clean to your standards, then just go with the best size/price combination that works for your wallet. At this point, we can only say what we'd prefer based on personal preferences - not which we objectively think is better - cut and color differences seem to be a wash at this point.

Re: Need help selecting the best ASETs (pics included) Gyps

Yeh I just had them put the 1.236 ( http://www.whiteflash.com/loose-diamonds/princess-cut-loose-diamond-2977136.htm# )on reserve for me. I was also eyeing the slightly larger 1.326 (http://www.whiteflash.com/loose-diamonds/princess-cut-loose-diamond-3081023.htm#) as I wanted to get closer to 1.4 but in the end I dont think the size difference will be noticable at all.

On the one from JA, I actually do like their setting but Ive read NOTHING but great things about WF and ACA whereas on JA I've read a handful of negative things as well (also a lot of positive tho). WF just seems like the clear winner, plus much more inventory for future tradeups if and when.

So definitely getting much closer!

Re: Need help selecting the best ASETs (pics included) Gyps

You don't ever have to worry about VS1 inclusions as they are extremely hard to see at 10x magnification. So I wouldn't worry about that one at all. The 1.32 faces up at almost the same size as the 1.23 because it is deeper and has a slightly thicker girdle, so it isn't worth paying extra for, in my opinion. I like everything about the 1.23 better anyway, smaller table, perfect square.

I agree with all your reasoning. I do think WF has better quality settings overall, too. They definitely have a better upgrade policy.

Re: Need help selecting the best ASETs (pics included) Gyps

If trade-up is within your realm of possibility then definitely go for WF! JA requires purchase of a diamond 2x the amount you originally paid to receive credit (I've heard that they still do credits for diamonds in between, but they pro-rate your credit). WF will definitely have a larger inventory of ideal stones should you look to upgrade in the future.

Re: Need help selecting the best ASETs (pics included) Gyps

Yeah. I forgot that these are high clarity. The WF one is fine. Get that. Better upgrade policies.

Re: Need help selecting the best ASETs (pics included) Gyps

Guys,
Thank you all so much for the advice these past few weeks. Its amazing how much I have learned in that time and can now make an educated decision in my purchase. My last (hopefully) ask is if you can give me your thoughts on the other images present on the WF page for the stone

http://www.whiteflash.com/loose-diamonds/princess-cut-loose-diamond-2977136.htm#

Specifically the actual image and the imagescope. I know imagescope isnt terribly important in the world of Princesses however because there is quite a bit of black, that would be interpreted as a GOOD thing, right? I was reading on GOGs blog that the black are hot spots and create that extra bit of sparkle. This was for a Round but I was assuming it would apply to any stone.

Again just get last min advice before I drop 7k in the morning. Thanks all!!!!

Re: Need help selecting the best ASETs (pics included) Gyps

It is as perfect a princess cut stone as you will ever find! :appl: Seriously, I would buy that exact stone myself and I can't always say that about stones I help people choose. I like everything about it.

Re: Need help selecting the best ASETs (pics included) Gyps

I want a princess to be as square as possible.

Re: Need help selecting the best ASETs (pics included) Gyps

Great thanks. And yeh this one is perfectly square :) 5.87 x 5.87

Re: Need help selecting the best ASETs (pics included) Gyps

Great!

Re: Need help selecting the best ASETs (pics included) Gyps

But out of curiosity was I right in my understanding of the black areas on the Idealscope? Or does that logic only apply to Rounds?

You need contrast zones. They are a good thing.
