Hey Pricescopers,

I have been reading this forum for the past few months and now know a lot more about diamonds than before, but not nearly enough. I am looking for an engagement ring that has the 4-Prong tiffany knife edge style. I know that white flash has a tiffany's look alike but I live in Texas and cannot afford the extra cash it will cost.

My goal is to find a ring for around $4500. The diamond needs to be:
- around 1 carat (preferably a little over a carat)
- Princess cut
- no lower than H color
- no lower than VS2 clarity
- as good of a cut as I can find under the pricing criteria

I have looked at a lot of diamonds on Blue Nile (not too popular around here) but like many have said, there is no way to see what diamond you are actually getting.

http://www.uniondiamond.com/diamonds/diamonds.php?search_type_id=2&action_type_id=2&context=rb&rb_flow_type=2&rb_action_type_id=22&item_id=AA826331

Any help would be appreciate! Thanks!

Welcome!

We have no way to evaluate the diamond you linked without images such as ASET, Idealscope and detailed photographs, and unfortunately I don't think the vendor of the linked diamond offer such services. Without at least photos you are really ' buying blind' in my opinion and have no way of knowing how pretty the diamond will be, and how well it is going to sparkle and perform.

I would suggest checking out some of the vendors who have in house diamonds available with all the info provided as mentioned previously -

www.goodoldgold.com

www.winkjones.com

www.niceice.com

www.exceldiamonds.com

Have a look to see if any of these vendors have the setting you want, also if you want a top cut Princess, then you could look at some Infinity Princess which Wink sells, the others have AGS0 cut grade Princess and some hand selected GIA with the relevant images and info provided.

Thanks!

This James Allen ring is pretty much what I am looking for...

http://www.jamesallen.com/engagement-rings/classic-solitaire-settings/ring/item_57-1940_design.asp?step=ItemComplete&cid=57

I guess besides the magnification it gives you, it doesn't included the tools...

What do you think? This seems like a good price?

Unless I am searching wrong, gog doesn't have any princess cuts that meet my criteria...
The setting is a classic, good choice!

I had a quick look for you, if you could stretch the budget a bit, Wink Jones has this diamond which might suit you, price appears to be around the $4865 mark -

Ooops my link doesn''t show the ring anymore.... I was looking at the Platinum 2mm Knife Edge Solitaire Engagement Ring at James Allen.

Unfortunately I meant $4500 for the ring and diamond together... That diamond looks awesome though.

Does this diamond look decent?

nm.... how do you link diamonds from James Allen, it doesn't seem to work

Wink might have access to that setting, it is a popular style - would you consider white gold for the setting? This would help the budget, but this is only a suggestion! The diamond looks great doesn''t it??

I am really sold on platinum

I think you are being a little unrealistic with your budget, you would be stretching it to get the carat mark in a well cut (sparkly stone). I would aim just under the ct mark for savings, and also look at SI1 clarity, which will save you $$$ too. If it''s eyeclean there is no reason to discount them, especially if your budget is tight.

Good luck :)

Would you gf prefer having platinum over a larger stone? Just an idea but she might prefer the stick with wgold and go for a slightly larger stone?

Thanks! I will look into that. Will most of the sites mentioned here tell you if the diamond is eyeclean or not, if you call?

The difference between platinum and white gold for the James Allen setting I am looking at is only $240.

Yes indeed, just be clear concerning your expectations so you and the vendor are both on the same page.

Good point, plat has come down a lot in price. I am a ygold girl, so I don''t follow plat prices.

Ditto Lorelei, if you are clear with the vendor what your expectations are regarding position and visibility of inclusions you will be fine. The important part is to make sure you are both clear on the definition of eyeclean.

Good luck!

I have nothing to add to this conversation. I just wanted to say hi to another Aggie! class of 05

congrats and good luck!

Thanks Jay!

Anyone have any opinions on the diamonds I posted?

Where are you reading that?

According to Wink's website, the diamond I posted is $4865 which is in maybe the hundreds more than some of the diamonds you posted, not 2k....

Here on this page it shows that price, scroll down to PR 0.92 H VS1 and you will see the price.

The first and second look the nicest to me, ask JA for Idealscope images for any that you like the look of.

James Allen is going to send me the idealscope images of the first 2 diamonds.... I will get them Monday. I will post them to see what y''all think.

Thanks again!

Here is one of the ideal scope images... let me know what y'all think (I don't know anything about ideal scope).
