Need help picking a diamond

Hi!

I am fairly new at this, but I am trying to pick out a diamond for my girlfriend (a serious diamond-lover, for lack of a better term. ie. She is serious about her diamond). I have a budget of around $1000 and want to make it into a necklace. I am thinking of this http://www.bluenile.com/diamond-details/LD08104169... But as I said, I am super new at this so I don't know if this one is good. Do you guys have a suggestions?

Not really, I just thought that clarity is important so I thought it needed to be high... I have no idea how perceptible the differences between each levels are...

Look at VS2 and even SI1. VS2 is a safe bet.

If your GF is like most women, she will take a bigger size over imperceptible clarity differences.

If your girlfriend is serious about her diamonds, do you think she might like a gift certificate so she can have the fun of picking one out herself? I know vouchers can seem a bit impersonal, but sometimes if the recipient is an expert in a particular area, he or she will enjoy the hunt more than receiving something chosen by a non-expert. You could specify that you would like her to get herself a pendant, or you could even pick the setting style and let her choose the stone to go in it.

That said, any diamond you pick based on people's advice here will be beautiful, because they're experts themselves.
