Hey everyone - I've spent the last couple days getting up to speed on everything and I have narrowed down my search. Using HCA I found a pretty good diamond right in my price range. I don't have an idealscope since it's from a local vendor, but I'm just trying to get through phase 1. Any red flags? It meets HCA sub 2, falls into AGS 0 (based on the charts I was reviewing), and is GIA Ex.

HCA Score 1.8

Carat: 1.12
Color: I
Precision: Ex
Sym: VG
Polish: Ex
Clarity: VS1
FL: Faint Blue
Measurements: 6.7 x 6.72 x 4.09

Depth Percentage: 61%
Table: 57%
CA: 34.9
PA: 40.9
Girdle: Med
LGF: 76%
Stars: 51%

After going through countless threads, here are my findings, could use some help:
- VG Sym is okay since we should stick to VG or better
- Good table %
- Faint flourescence is a matter of preference but not visible
-CA/PA is on the steeper side but still in the ideal range
- Star is a bit below the 55%, not sure how this affects the performance?
- LGF is on the lower side, so stronger flashes, having an 80LGF might be better

Can you post the depth of the stone and dimensions? The table size is larger than many would consider ideal, typically we suggest stay bwtween 54-58.

You caught me before I even had time to edit my mistakes, good catch and great response time! haha. It's a 57% table.

It's all in there now, everything should be exact

 I thought that something wasn't quite right. I think that the numbers look good. I wouldn't worry about the VG symmetry grade, it's very unlikely that you will be able to discern a difference bewteen EX and VG anyway, also it's not a grade of it's optical symmetry but rather it's facets meet points. When you view the diamond again, make sure that you view it in many many different lighting environments. Ask if you can take the stone outside, and into their office area. Look for brightness from edge to edge, pay close attention to any darkness that may be apparent under the table. Rock the stone back and forth and look for any 'dead' areas that may not light up. And compare the stone to a couple other GIA EX or AGS0 with different proportions to determine it's performance. But, I don't see any red flags.

edit: If time permits, you may want to purchase your own IS and take it with you while you view stones. Also, have you seen the GIA report. I would want to make sure that it was current. People often sell or upgrade their stones, so it's possible in some cases that the report is many years old, in which case I would want the stone resubmitted to be sure that the report is still accurate, at the very least I would want it evaluated by an independent appraiser (someone that doesn't sell jewelry and has no interest in this particular stone). I would also only purchase if there was a return policy in place and it was in writing. Also it's unlikely that the fluor, has any impact on the stone but when you take it outside look to make sure that there is no milky or oily look to it.

Thanks Christina, I appreciate it. I'll check out all those steps tomorrow. Anyone else have feedback on the specs?

Let me try and send this up one more time for the pro's. Am I good to go? Any thing else I need to worry about with those numbers?
