Hi!

I found people in this forum to be super friendly and responsive, so I decided to try my luck and ask if someone can give me their opinion, or maybe even suggesting a couple of diamonds. I am looking one for my engagement ring, a platinum solitaire, micropave, which I will get from BlueNile because I loved it. Still, if there is a better diamond out there I am willing to go through the trouble of buying it separately and mounting it with a local jeweler.

I am looking for something close to a carat (around .9), with a color of H or I (J looks yellow to me), the best cut I can afford and a clarity of SI1. I think that will give me something that would look really great to the naked eye. Is that correct?

My budget is of about 4000$, but I could go a bit higher if it is really worth it. I have found a few diamonds and I have also been using the HCA tool to filter even those in the GIA ideal cut range. Still, with so many options, it is hard for me to decide. A few that I like are the following ones.

BlueNile LD04391321 (great in paper but cannot see it)
BlueNile LD04480799 (didnt look good in HCA but G color)
PaulAllen 296028 (looks pretty good to me and does great in the HCA test)
Brian Gavin AGS-104055908012 (this one is somehow over the price range)

Which one would you recommend? If there are others that you would recommend over those in a similar price-size ratio, I am happy to hear about it. If you think my criteria is not optimal for what can be seen with the naked eye in such a ring, I would also love to hear your opinions.

I am pretty excited about it. I think the ring looks beautiful and having a pretty stone would make it so great. I think she is going to be so happy. Anyway, thanks for reading this far.

I will definitely choose BGD as it is guarantee of high quality :appl:

Your parameters are fine and should help maximize the size if the cut is great, it sounds as if you have definitely been doing some homework and realize the difference cut quality makes to beauty!Just ensure any SI clarity grade is checked to make sure it is eye clean to your specifications, a trusted vendor with the diamond in hand can advise you there.[/b]

We would need links or all the proportions posted please in order to give a first opinion on the Blue Nile and James Allen diamonds, if the Brian Gavin diamond is one of his inventory stones, then it's going to be beautiful and from the info we have at the moment, that's the one I would suggest concentrating on. We can certainly have a look to see what else is out there that might be suitable. Blue Nile are an excellent vendor but they don't supply images which give us so much useful info about the light return of a diamond, with images such as ASET or Idealscope it's much easier to determine exactly what you are buying. I will hunt up the info on the BN diamonds so we can gain some more info.

Absolutely, it's very exciting and you will end up with a stunning ring!

Hi Eraben, welcome to Pricescope! Thank you for your feedback saying you find us to be welcoming and responsive, it's very good to know!

Thoughts are above in bold.

Actually, I have a follow up question.
SInce I am buying my setting in BlueNile (the infinity twist micropave which I really liked). I was thinking on setting the diamond somewhere else, but from what I read it can be risky to do so and maybe cost a couple hundred of dollars to do so if I dont buy the diamond nor the setting from them. So perhaps is it better to just get one of the blue nile diamonds?

I think BN does not sell their settings without a diamond.

Actually, they do for some settings... but without the prongs?
What they said is that the the stipulations are, the ring head, or prongs of the ring are not included with the setting. So do jewelers just make their own prongs? I feel a bit uneasy about this... as I feel about picking a diamond without seeing it. But I really loved that setting and I haven't seen anything that I like that much. There is one kind of similar in James Allen, but it doesn't look quite right to me.

By the way, any suggestions on the diamonds (and links) posted above is still appreciated :D
