Need help identifying gem!!!

i found this gem in the mountains as a child and it looks similar to a sapphire on an old identification chart. I wanted an expert opinion on what it might be and if it is valuable.

Where in the mountains did you find it? Which country? At first glance, it looks like a garnet. I'm looking through rough I have found. It doesn't look like my sapphires or rubies, but more like my garnets, but not my alluvial ones. Garnet crystals are dodecahedral.

Really can't tell other than it isn't gem quality.

I think it's a garnet.
