Hello!

I am in the process of purchasing an engagement ring and have all the rings details decided - EXCEPT for the most important part, the sparkly diamond at its center! I have done some reading up on diamonds but don't have the expert judgement that you guys possess and so would really appreciate some guidance!

I have a fair few diamonds in mind but only really have the dimensions and a closeup photo to go on (the ring needs to be ready in a hurry you see). The GIA cert numbers for diamonds on my shortlist currently are:

3305931891 (0.5 ct VS1 color E)
5286528935 (0.53 ct VS1 color F)
6311275032 (0.5 ct VVS2 color E)

I have some other ones too that I can share with you guys but I would be keen to get you opinions on these ones.

I would suggest you post screen shots or at least links of the GIA reports as people are more likely to respond if you do that work for them ;)

Report check is down at the moment.

Just been told that the 0.53 carat stone has been sold so its a two horse race now.

I am leaning towards the 3305931891 stone:

Seems to have good dimensions:

Any thoughts?

Many thanks!

Very nice numbers.

Thank you very much for taking a look - good to know the numbers look decent! ... What do you make of the appearance of the stone? To me it looks lovely but I don't have a trained eye - nothing that you can see that should give me pause? :)

Its clarity defects are listed as: "Cloud, Feather" ... At VS1 level would that be any cause for concern?

I wouldn’t be concerned. The numbers look great and the image seems fine. Some people would ask for a ASET image but you seem to have a timeline and I’d have no reason to be worried this diamond wouldn’t perform well.

Proportions are pretty amazing. I'd like to see 75 lower girdle facets (LGF) but that is just being picky. Besides the way GIA rounds, an 80 reported value can be anywhere from 78-82. Looking at the diamond image I'd say it's closer to 78 as the arrows aren't overly skinny.

Very nice find. :cool2:

Based on your comments I assume you are working with a local jeweler. Not sure his ask price on the stone, but you could buy it online for $1,820. If he's not already that price or cheaper, maybe you can use it to negotiate a better deal for yourself. ;)2

FYI, for about the same price range you can dip your toes in the super ideal diamond pool. These stones are certified by AGS to have Ideal cut and also exhibit true hearts & arrow (H&A) symmetry. These are amongst the finest diamonds available.

In addition to a killer stone with sparkles galore, they come with some of the best upgrade programs in the business -- simply spend $1 more and get full credit of your original stone when you decide to trade. Two top notch companies that are customer focused. All the performance and symmetry images to confirm you are buying top quality.

WF ACA 0.53ct E SI1 @ $1,948 wire
https://www.whiteflash.com/loose-diamonds/round-cut-loose-diamond-3999673.htm

Gets you a smidge bigger at 5.18 x 5.22mm compared to the 5.10 x 5.12mm of the stone your local guy can ship in and that I found at ED. Truly not much size gain that will be hard to detect with the human eye.

More importantly it's a super ideal and basically a wash in price. These stones are vetted by WF and kept in a vault. They can pull & ship to you overnight if needed. Additionally because they are vetted, I am less concerned dropping the clarity to SI1 as their site says it's eye clean and really on a 0.5ct stone high clarity is overkill anyhow.

WF ACA 0.60ct F SI1 @ $2,195 wire
https://www.whiteflash.com/loose-diamonds/round-cut-loose-diamond-4013672.htm

This stone gives you some very appreciable size gain at 5.42 x 5.45mm. =)2 Again, it's eye clean and the images and video looks rather awesome.

WF ACA's 0.515 to 0.566ct E/F VS2 @ $2,136-$2,272

Suspecting you may want a little higher clarity, here are some more that are VS2 stones. Two of the stones get you around the 5.30mm mark.

HPD/CBI 0.51ct E SI1 @ $2,145 wire

HPD/CBI 0.53ct E SI1 @ $2,229 wire

Either of these HPD/CBI stones would make a few people here jealous. The ACA and CBI are on par with each other in terms of quality. Some prefer one over the other. It's a win win for you as both are top notch and there are no wrong answers with any of the above choices.

Thanks all for your input - very much appreciate your advice and appraisals! :) Based on your feedback I have decided to proceed with this stone.

Thanks again for your help!
