Please help! I'm looking to upgrade to a larger stone and have narrowed it down to two. I have been in touch with 2 jewelers and am scheduled to go see both next week. However, both are very similar in all specifications except one is at a local jeweler and a little more expensive while stone #2 is at a jeweler about 4 hours away but cheaper. Is it worth the drive?

Stone #1 - local jeweler (more expensive)

Round, 2.04, F, Si1, Triple Ex
Table: 58%
Depth: 60.5%
Crown Angle: 33.5
Pavilion Angle: 41
Girdle: thin to medium

HCA: 1.1
GIA cert: 1129868190

This stone has a lower crown angle and number of twinning wisps and that I'm a little concerned about. I've read that they're usually hard to see with a naked eye but does it have any effect on the durability of the stone itself? Especially because of the location of the wisps?

Stone #2 - 4 hour drive away (cheaper)

Round, 2.00, F, Si1, Triple Ex
Table: 58%
Depth: 60.3%
Crown Angle: 35
Pavilion Angle: 40.6
Girdle: thin to medium

HCA: 0.9
GIA cert: 2145983431

This stone is a lot cleaner compared to Stone #1 when looking at the GIA cert but is it that much better than Stone #1 that I should invest the time to drive 8 hours (round trip) to go purchase the stone?

Thanks to all in advance for your input and advice

I think you should be happy with anything your future husband buy's you no? I think you are getting WAY to specific and making a hassle out of something that is supposed to be a " gift' of love" , don't wear down your future husbands patience he will remember all the fuss over it and that's not a good way to begin a marriage. He may not tell you but you should not be ' upgrading' your engagement ring. Period. Be happy with whatever you get and be thankful.

How much cheaper? The numbers look good on that second one so if it saved me a good deal of money it would be worth my
time. Will the jeweler that has the second stone ship it to an appraiser that is close by you? You will have to pay for shipping
cost and cost to the appraiser which will eat into any savings.

Hi, I should have been more clear - i'm not upgrading my "ering" but we've been married for a few years and had been engaged for a few years prior. My husband had decided for our 10 year anniversary of being "together" to upgrade my current stone to a larger one. However, since my post i have decided to pass on both stones and wait a while longer on the upgrade. I am very content with my current 1.33 RB center and will wait a few more years and maybe do a 2.5 vs2 f triple ex? hehe. jennagirl911 you are right, it was a gift of love that i truly appreciated and the fact he even mentioned upgrade to me before i did was enough of an anniversary gift. Thank you both for taking the time to reply! =D

Very sorry you didn't get more replies before! Please do come back when you are ready for a new diamond! Many of us here have gotten new rings since our original! Some keep the original diamond and use it in a pendant or another ring setting, and others trade in the original stone. Often you can do better just buying outright.

Jennagirl's comment come across as mean and judgey, you handled them very graciously lovefordiamonds. Caring about quality and value is not being ungrateful or a 'hassle'. Your husband will be proud to see you wearing your upgrade. Congratulations on the 10 years.
