Hi all,

I have been a silent reader for the past few days but now I have a few questions hopefully you can help me with.

I am looking to buy an engagement ring from Blue Nile. I see most people are saying that preference is based on AGSL because they are "less general" in terms. I have found a diamond and was wondering if you can tell me what you think. I am trying to get a 0.7ct, round, ideal cut, G, VS1, but so far there is only 1 AGSL listed within my price range at 2500~. I put it through gemappraisers cut grade report which gave it 1B (table and crown were 1B in report, all else 1A). I also put it through HCA but it said that the girdle is dangerously thin (didnt rate the diamond either) which would be a no no. There are 3 GIA''s in the price range which I will plug to the calcs to see as well. My question is if I am going to stick with AGSL I don''t know if I should drop the color to H or change clarity to VS2 to keep the same size.

I need to get a ring by next Wednesday (i have till today or tommorrow to order).

Any help is greatly appreciated

Hmm... How did you get the dangerously thin comment? Did you use the percentage depth for the crown and pavilion instead of angles?

The numbers for the AGS look good to me.

Yep, I run the numbers and come up with a 1.2 on the HCA w/four excellents.

The girdle is fine, this could be a great diamond, nothing to worry about. You could lower the colour and clarity to H VS2 if there was one similar if you wished, but this is a personal preference.

Thanks for your responses!!

Yes I see I made a mistake with the pavillion % vs the angle. Tried it again and it says excellent. Do you think it is a good find or should i check the GIA''s to see if I can find a 1A rating? Anything noticeably bad with this choice.

Its a great diamond, no concerns at all.

This stone is good, stick with it. :P

GIA has much greater variation due to their rounding of number for the angles. If BN can produce images, especially Idealscope/ASET image, I may consider doing more leg work, but they don't.

Thanks everyone, really appreciate your help! Feel a little bit of pride

finally accomplishing this goal after all the homework and searches online. One more question though, it says it has a very small culet. Do you think this is anything much to worry about vs a diamond with none?

Nothing to worry about. At that size, you should not be able to see it, maybe just with a 10X loupe.

No worries with the culet, you won''t even see it, for further reassurance read this page
