I'm new to the board and new help. I'm thinking about purchasing this GIA certified 2.01 VS1 I EX EX cushion cut diamond. However, I have no idea what I'm doing and want to make an informed decision. This diamond cost 13K and I want to make a great decision. I will attach the asset reports. Please help me review this diamond and let me know what you think. Do you think this diamond will bling? Thanks in advance for your responses.

Are you colour sensitive ? I notice Color in Cushions below F colour .

No, I'm not color sensitive.

Looks great to me! My regret on my original ering was sacrificing size for color... If I knew more then I would have gone with the best cut and biggest size with my money... Instead I have a G (which is lovely) however had I known then what I know now I def would have gone lower on color scale with bigger size and better cut for more sparkle! All that matters is you love it though! You can always set it in unplated white gold so it appears even whiter if that is important to you, just make sure sidestones if you are getting them are I color as well so they dont contrast the center cushion... But just my 2 cents, enjoy, I love it!

You can compare prices on here too cant comment on that or the scope really, there are pros on here that can give you real technical opinions on that but looks good to me :)

Hi HW Baby and welcome!

I take it the diamond is intended for an engagement ring? I think it will definitely bling, the images look good, just ask the vendor to check the diamond lights up when away from the camera under the table, there are some slightly darker areas there. Chances are it's fine but best to check. Otherwise the ASET looks pretty good. Do you have a photo of the actual stone you can post too please?

VS1, even in that size there should not be a problem with seeing any visible inclusions, but it is a big diamond, no harm in checking. I colour, ask how white it looks, again it's a big stone and it might show a slight hint of warmth but again the vendor can discuss it with you. Does the diamond have any fluorescence? If this is the sort of cushion you like, more modern in appearance than a chunkier faceted style, this could be an excellent choice if the above points get a favourable report. What setting do you have in mind?

You could also upload the GIA report so we can see all the proportions out of interest, the images trump the numbers but it's nice to be able to check out the report for completeness.

Thanks for the response. I made a mistake this stone is a VS2. This stone has several crystals but you can't see with the necked eye. However, when using the loop you can see several black spots. Should I be concerned or is this normal? I had the opportunity to view the diamond but I don't know what to look for.

Hi HW Baby,

Thanks for uploading the report, I can't quite make out the depth and table percentages but as I mentioned previously, the images trump the proportions, plus it's nice to see polish and symmetry are excellent.

What you describe can be absolutely normal in this clarity grade, as long as you can't see them without a loupe ( check carefully from all angles, distances and in different lighting to be absolutely sure), then you should be good to go. Even if you did spot an inclusion with the naked eye that needn't be a problem depending on how you feel, I quite like a little ' birthmark' in my diamonds, but not everyone feels that way!

So you think the aset report looks good? I really don't know how to compare this diamond since it's my very first cushion.

I understand and yes, I think the ASET looks good, not the best I have seen especially compared to cushions that are cut with the end goal being a cushion with the best optical performance possible, but it's certainly a good image nonetheless. This tutorial sheds some light ( pardon the pun!) on how to read ASET, there is another reference chart beneath it which might also be helpful. I think we have a good image here, there is a nice distribution of red which we want, the red is hitting the edges of the stone which is important. Red is actual light return, the diamond is bouncing the direct light back to the eye which you would see as sparkle. The green is ok, that's actually light the diamond is picking up from its surroundings, green light is less intense than red, too much green is undesirable. I don't think there is too much green in this image, we do have red and it's placed throughout the stone. The main thing I would check is that this diamond is lighting up in the middle once away from the camera, we can see in both images there is a dark ring around the centre of the stone under the table, ask the vendor to check this effect isn't present when away from the camera in normal viewing conditions.

Also, I take it this is the type of cushion you want, the more modern type rather than the chunkier faceted variety?

looks great!

Wow eight main generic modern cushions are hard to find.
