hi all,
i am interested in a nice antique diamond ring but don't really know where to start looking.
Can you recommend a reliable seller with good price?

what size/quality would you recommend for a budget of $1000? or $2000?
thanks so much!

HI tttt!

I would recommand you start with pawn and Ebay. Look for old diamond in the search box.

After that, if you want a loose stone to begin, see:

http://jewelsbyericagrace.com/

http://www.singlestone.com/

http://www.oldworlddiamonds.com/invpage.html

For a budget around $2000 I think you can have a beautiful .75 ct.

For an OEC, look for:

- medium or small culet
- small table
- you can go until K-L in color and the stone will face up white
- watch for chips on the girdle. It's normal to have minus but not alot.
- the best clarity is better. If you can find VS2 or SI1(eye clean), you're ok.

Finaly, when you search for an antique ring or stone, you have to love it and trust the seller cause they are rarely certified.

When you will find YOUR ring or stone, believe me, you will know! :D

Dover has some very nice rings. The one in photo is very pretty. I purchased my antique ring from Lang's (in avatar) and they have a very nice selection, more in their store than on the website. They are a little pricey but only sell items that are in very good shape. Very reputable and have been in business in San Francisco for many years.

If you like the one in the photo go for it. It's less than I paid for mine but the stone is larger. I like it.

Not sure I like the setting Sweety but It's matter of taste! The diamond seem really beautiful!

If you search for an antique complete ring, singlestone and Erica and Grace can help you for sure!

I can't wait to see your final choice but don't hesitate to post all what you find in the diamond route! :lickout:

stci, i agree, the setting doesn't set off the diamond for me.
swingirl, the stone is so pretty right? but i am a complete novice with diamond, it might just be a good picture.
kelpie, i am intimidated by ebay and pawn shops!
but thanks to your links, i've been looking around, and they are a lot of choices on ebay, maybe too much :)

i'd like something with a nice old cut and good clarity - color is a lower priority.
this ring is going for $1316, is it good?

this ring is gorgeous. as well as the 2 stones above. but they don't take returns :( is that normal for selling/buying diamond rings?
anyway i bought an art deco ring, .55 euro cut for 1100, 18k white gold, probably will get it in 2 weeks, i can't wait :)
thanks for all your help! i've learned a lot about diamond in the last 2 weeks :)

is a .2 diamond worth buying? how much would it go for in a simple ring?

and still i have another question: what do you think of these twin rocks? are they possibly old cuts? the seller doesn't mention it so i don't think she knows.

Perhaps but not sure about the stones... difficult to say with the pic angle.
