Need for Appraisals

I am going through some turmoil here. I was in the midst of working with RockDoc when he received a higher calling (you will be missed Bill). We spoke at great length about what I was looking for in a diamond and I was working to get one through one of the very fine vendors often praised on this site. Now based upon some of the posts I have seen here I am wondering if:

1) I should simply go with one of the top vendors based upon their reputations and forgo an appraisal; and/or
2) If I go for an appraisal who can I find that could fill Bill''s shoes? (and I mean no disrespect to any of the other fine appraisers here)

As you know better than I, no one will replace Rock Doc.

Short of that...at least to limit the universe...consider doing a search on the word: boutique, and see what comes up dated, oh...yesterday.

I think you could do either honestly. BUT Richard Sherwood and Dave Atlas are two very well known and respected appraisers here on PS. I personally would send a stone to one of them in a heartbeat.
