Hello,

I am in serious need of some expert help. I am looking at a diamond (round) and has proportions that the holloway cut adviser is rating as a 1.2, however, based on other expert comments that I have read on this site, I should stick with a crown angle between 34.3 and 34.8 and a pavilion angle of 40.5-40.9. The diamond in question does not fall in between these ranges. the crown angle is 33.9 and the pavilion angle is 41.0, but yet the HCE advisor is rating it a 1.2... what should I go by? which should I trust more? It is rated an AGS zero, but I have read that not all "ideals" are created equally as some that fall into this range are not as desirable as others.

Very nervous and need to make a decision soon.

Thanks in advance for your help.

bumping this back up to the top - I really need some advice. thanks!

Hello T,

I agree that the crown and pavilion angles you cited are extremely good (tight). However, if the stone you're looking at is AGS0 in cut it already has a fine pedigree and I suspect the HCA numbers will be a reliable predictor of extraordinary performance: As long as you're below a 2.0 you're in the top 5% of visual performance.

I personally love stones which have numbers right around that 1.0 "sweet spot"

As with all cases - make sure your eyes agree with the assessment, and always have an appraiser verify the quality.

Best,
