I am in the market for a engagement ring. Here are the specs:

Round Brilliant
Carat Weight: 1.42
Color Grade: F
Clarity Grade: VS2
Cut Grade: Very Good

Proportions:

Depth: 62.3 %
Table: 57 %
Crown Angle: 35.5°
Crown Height: 15.5 %
Pavilion Angle: 40.2°
Girdle: Medium
Culet: None
Polish: Very Good
Symmetry: Good
Fluorescence: Faint
Price: $10935

How are the quality compare to the price?

Thanks!

who is the report/cert by?

Personally I wouldnt buy a diamond with a 40.2 pavilion.
It would look good from across the room but not that great up close.

edit: just saw the good sym which is kicking the price down, which is why it seemed too low.
Id pass and get something better cut.

thanks for replying.

Hi nasayin.

There isn''t just one that is good. It takes a balance between the crown angle and the pavillion angle for things to work, along with everything else. There is a tool called the Holloway Cut Adviser (found at top of page), that can help you determine what might be worth buying. Takes some of the guess work out. I''ll give you the link, and hope it helps. You want a score under 2 for potentially great performers.

Thanks Ellen.

The cut advisor gave the score 1.1 so I guess it''s pretty good then.

curious, what is the diameter?

JulieN:

The measurement on the diamond is 7.06-7.16x4.43mm

Just want to clarify on the pavilion. The pavilion angle is 40.2 and the pavilion height is 42.5.

As I said before, the HCA can help you find a potentially great diamond. What I failed to elaborate on is the fact that just because a stone gets a good score, it does not mean it's an automatic winner.

In this diamonds case, I'd pass. I personally like PA's of 40.7-41.0, along with a proper crown angle. This stone is just too extreme for me. Also, it's a 1.42, which should have a diameter somewhere around 7.3. I have a 1.4 with a diameter of 7.25. Yours is facing up small. Also, by the difference in the diameter numbers, it doesn't sound really tightly cut, which you'd like to see.

So, considering these factors, I'd keep looking.

ETA Your best bet is to find one that falls within GIA and AGS.
