Looked at this stone today and wanted to get some thoughts from the group:

Specs:

Round Brilliant
Measurements: 7.87 - 8.02 x 4.93 mm

Carat Weight: 1.93 carat
Color Grade: F
Clarity Grade: SI1
Proportions:
Depth: 62.1%
Table: 62%
Girdle: Medium to Thick, Faceted ()
Culet: None
Finish:
Polish: Very Good
Symmetry: Good
Fluorescence: None

Thoughts?

Who graded this?

Do you have crown/pavilion angle info, or the cert number?

It doesn''t look great: big table, thick girdle, and good symmetry are not promising qualities. It''s also more out-of-round than I''d like.

GIA Cert # 12668561

Ah. It's an older report, they don't list crown/pavilion.

If you've found this through a PS vendor, they should be able to run a scan and get you that info or tell you what they think of the stone, and provide some images to show performance (IS/ASET). Otherwise I'd pass.

ETA: If you post your budget we can help you find a guaranteed performer

Big fat ditto.

Thanks guys/gals.

They quoted me a price of $15,000 which, taking everything into consideration, seemed reasonable. Back to the drawing board I guess.

Hi chapter

Going by the table size alone, you can do better. What I would suggest is as an exercise, try to view some AGS0 Peerless from Jareds if there is one in your area, or alternatively, Hearts on Fire if there is a dealer near you. This will give you a much better idea of how beautiful well cut stones can be so you can compare this one.

Wow - thanks for the options, yssie. I will do my own research but I assume all of those retailers are trusted by the group?

Prefer those that can offer images.

Yup - you need to ask JA for the IS image for a stone you're interested in if it's not online, and you'll need to check eyeclean to your standards with each vendor.
