Hi All,

Long time reader and only just registered.

Looking for that special rock for an engagement ring - tiffany style - simple and classic look. Nothing too complicated

It's been suggested to me by my significant other around 1.5ct would be a great size, i'm looking to see what the best value is I can get. As cut seems to be the most important i'm looking at Hearts and Arrows type cut and then less so on the other items. Eye clean is also extremely important as i don't want to be able to see imperfections with the naked eye . I've been told by friends to stay H or above and VS2 or above.

thoughts on the above?

thanks

This is a nice stone. How much is it and what's your budget for the stone only? It'll help others with suggesting alternatives.

I agree it's a nice stone. I also agree that cut is the most important C! However, you can find a very well cut stone without paying the premium for a HA. HA stones are more about optical symmetry than they are about light performance. It's possible to view an ideal cut stone next to a true HA stone and never be able to visible tell the difference. However, that super ideal is super important to some people, so I think you should think about whether it is to you or not before you pay a premium for it.

Also when it comes to listening to friends advice...it might be worth taking with a grain of salt. I'm sure that they mean well, but there are so many other things to consider when determining what the best value for YOU is. Color grading is subjective and everyone has different tolerances for body color. It's also important to consider which lab did the grading. Your friend may have purchased an H graded stone from EGL, which would likely make it a J or lower by GIA grading standards, therefore his advice to you would have to be, only consider J or better...see what I mean? The cut and make of a stone plays a role in how white it may face up as well. There is a current thread discussing this right now, I believe that it's titled "color affected by cut' or something like that. Fluorescence can also help mask body color in some stones and are often discounted as it seen as a negative by many in the trade but preferred by many many consumers here because of it's ability to help make some stones appear more white and for the very cool blue glow that it exhibits in certain lighting conditions.

If you want a truly eye clean stone then staying at VS2 or above is your best bet, but consider that there is no industry wide definition of eye clean, some consider face up at first glance, some from half an arms length, others don't want to see any inclusions from the face up view or from the side. It will be important that you communicate your definition to your vendor so that you are both on the same page. It's possible to find 'eye clean' stones in the SI range as well, and though I haven't seen one, I've heard of eye clean I1's as well.....they are much much harder to find, but a tremendous value if you do. ;)

Beautiful Stone! It seems to be not available anymore?

I think because the OP has it on hold.

It looks like a beautiful stone and H VS2 is a very nice choice! How much is it?

Thanks for the comments everyone. Yes, I put it on hold after seeing a few posts from people upset after asking about a specific diamond then it not being available.

That stone is 16k. My budget is around that and I've also had the same friend from above now telling me go GIA only (which has only confused things further as the AGS vs GIA is covered in great length in other posts). I like the fact the AGS tests more things than GIA but I've heard it can be a bit more lax with it's gradings.

I went and looked at SI1 in person at a physical Jewelers and it just seemed too risky with that size, sometimes you could really see the inclusions but i agree you can find some eye clean if you look hard (no pun intended!).

If the color is going to be important at that size then i can got up 1 or maybe more but then it's very hard to stay around that price range with anything higher.

I really appreciate the help so far!

nice stone,and i love the H VS2 combo.
