Need a Identification and Opinion/Suggestions

PS Members,

After learning a lot about diamonds the hard way, I thought I would save myself some work any appeal to your collective genius...

My mother wants her engagement ring "reset" for her 40 year anniversary. Below is a picture of the setting she is in love with, she really likes the flat bottom shank and THICK/CHUNCK band.

The problem is her ER diamond is a 2.21 marquise diamond (you dont see too many of these around). Looking at the desired ring reset... A few questions for you

1) Could it even be accomplished? A partial bezel marquise set long ways (paralleling the length of her finger).
2) I can not see how it would not be a custom job, as such who do you think is best to look to for the job?
3) Has anyone ever seen/heard of the brand of the original ring...

ALSO, what do you think? Are there any major concerns about doing a reset in this manner?

I might encourage her to spend some more time looking at possible settings for a marquise. There have been some beautiful rings posted here with marquise stones set east-west. I don't know if I can find any for you tonight, but I think it is worth taking the time to explore different styles when considering a reset.

Yes, it's possible, if I am understaning your questions correctly. Parallelling the length of her finger would be a north south orientation, right? Something like this?


Obviously not as blingy as the ring you posted, but a semi-bezel, north south large marquis. So yes, very possible!
