Hey guys, fairly new to the board so I hope I'm doing this correctly. I've been doing a lot of reading and finally found something within my criteria.
I just got a quote from a local diamond shop, I heard many good things from this place so it's not your typical strip mall diamond shop. I'm dropping by tomorrow to take a look at the certificate and see how they look under the idealscope.

Here’s the specs on the stone, I checked on the HCA and it returned as excellent.

0.92ct
H
VS2
depth=61.5%
table=55%
Crown=34
Pavilion=40.8
Cutlet 0.6% v.small
Girdle 1.9%
ex polish/ excellent symmetry
$4500

The stone was not one of their ideal stones but they said it had the proportions of an ideal stone. Is this true? The crown height is 14.6% but the range for an ideal is 15-16.2%? Also, the pavilion angle is 40.8% and not the 41degrees for ideal. Should I be concern about this?

The inclusions are near the edges, there’s a small feather at 11o’clock and a cloud at 6 o’clock. Both you can see with the loupe but not with the naked eye. The cloud is also not really small, an okay size I would say. They mention that since the inclusions were on the side it shouldn’t be an issue.

I checked the diamond under the idealscope, wasn’t really sure what I was looking for but it look okay. The hearts and arrows were there. Anything else I should look for? Good even distribution of the red around the diamond?

The last question is whether this was a good price or not.

Any help is greatly appreciated!!

Those ideal numbers are meant to guess brilliance - the HCA simply guesses over a larger range. I would not worry about the numbers any further.

Do you have an Ideal Scope picture ? since you mention...

unfortunately no, I asked them about it and they said they tried taking a picture with camera but it came out really bad. So they''re guessing the ones provided by whiteflash required a special adapter or something.

Based on numbers do you think the price is justified?

bumpity for more suggestions, I''m going there again tomorrow, thinking of getting this either this weekend or Monday.

Any help is greatly appreciated! :)

Thanks again

It sounds like a very nice stone. It is a litle higher priced than the online stones, but stones just under the 1ctw mark are pretty hard to find, the stone over 1ctw are more. Looking through the idealscope you sould see mostly red -- not big chunks of white or light pink. (See the Ideal Scope info under Tools, above for examples.) ALso check to make sure the the inclusions don''t reach the surface of the stone. If all that checks out, it sounds great, and maybe they will negotiate some on the price.

Do you by any chance have the depth and table numbers reversed? It sounds a little shallow but if the numbers were reversed it would be very good.

Hi solange, you''re absolutely correct!!! It was typo, I had the numbers switched, I''ve changed the original post to reflect the correction! Thanks again for the catch!

The correct numbers are
0.92ct
H
VS2
Depth=61.5%
Table=55%
Crown=34
Pavilion=40.8
Cutlet 0.6% v.small
Girdle 1.9%
ex polish/ excellent symmetry
$4500

Thanks for the input lop ... although I''m a little worried that windowshopper said it was over one grand above everyone else.

With the new changes any additional coments?

Where are they ?

The only other ex/ex''s I saw started at $4300.00

Te #''s are good - so that means it has not been rejected by HCA - but now is it a nice stone? It depends on symmetry and other small things which can easily be seen in the ideal-scope - you saw it through one? tell us what you saw P?

Thanks for the replies guys, I did see the rock under the idealscope, it looked good I think. I looked at a similar diamond but rated as ideal, and both looked really similar.

If I was to use this reference, it looks more like the 2nd one from the left.
http://www.ideal-scope.com/using_reference_chart.asp

There middle part is a little pinker than the rest of the diamond.

I think I''m going to pull the trigger on this.

Great - even 8* diamonds look a little pinkish under the table through an ideal-scope - no problem with that :)

Thanks for the tips guys :) This might be a little on the high side I guess ... what would be a good/acceptable price range this rock?

I''m thinking of heading in this afternoon :)

Hi Pastrami,

Yesterday I used the search engine above to do a search for comparable EX/EX GIA stones and the few I found started at $4300.00.

FWIW
